    Hi,

You are welcome to bring wine, though not in glass containers. There is a Cook County Forest Preserve rule against beverages in glass containers.

    See you next week!

OK,new Spreadsheet - please double-check your entries, your dishes, your number of people, especially if you have PMmed me information or adjusted things.

    Total count of attendees: 188

    14 Beverages
    4 breads
    11 Desserts
    14 Main dishes
    3 salads
    7 sides
    2 supplies
    2 coolers of ice

3 need grill, 4 bringing grill, 4 each for cleanup and setup

In addition to the ice, limes, tonic water and gin-flavored vodka [it's kinda that color], I'm going to bring a chocolate sauerkraut cake. I've been wanting to try out this recipe for years. Clearly this is the right opportunity.

If this were a 'civilian' crowd, I'd refer to it as 'special ingredient' chocolate cake. But since this is an LTH event, I'm going to trumpet the 'special' ingredient.

Oh, btw - other stuff to bring: containers for you to take home leftovers and a cooler to stash them in your car (of course, no running off with the food before everybody's had a chance to eat! :D ) We may or may not have them, history says we will, but either way this is a perfect time to dig out all those reusable containers from your junk drawer and wash them all.

Also, if you are a buy-it-rather-than-make-it type and are looking for ideas, this is a crowd that loves cheeses and charcuterie, (I don't see a cheese plate so far) and nobody expects you to make your own (even though I'm sure some will.) There's even a couple of Great Neighborhood Resources you can buy from if you want.

michelle, please confirm me in the appetizer and dessert and drink columns. i've 'improved' upon alevropita, greek feta tart, by adding chive, dill and walnuts, and it'll make a good passable dish. don't know what dessert i'm making, but it'll be bite sized. also, limeade. justjoan

    Hi,

People and food will arrive and depart in waves. If you are leaving early, please take something because we need the space for more. This is not your favorite place for take-out, either.

Now taking food off of someone else's plate, that shouldn't happen though it has happened at least once.

Plastic drinking cups are welcome. Someone thought they might have the plastic tablecloth situation addressed, but will know better tomorrow at work.

Do we need anti-insect stuff? Not sure what the best product/methods are but happy to pick up candles, strips or whatever is recommended since the mosquitos and, particularly, the flies have been awful this summer...

    Hi,

Always bring mosquito stuff, though I checked with a local who said they have been spraying. I hope we only need people to spray themselves.

I was at a forest preserve on Saturday adjacent to a river at Dundee & Milwaukee Avenues. A friend who lives just a little further north complained of bugs. I didn't see one mosquito in the few hours I was there.

Okay, I'm going in on the Uncle John's links with glenpan and boudreaulicious, I will also bring an Alsatian potato salad I made a couple of years ago for Marseilles in May, homemade bread & butter pickles to go with the Q and my friend is making a peach sangria. I'll also bring a table, tablecloth and plastic cups.

I have to say I'm on pins and needles wondering what kind of food/art jazzfood will show up with this year. Can't wait until Sunday.

    Dear Cathy,

I am wishing to come to your event on 9-12. We just spoke on the phone a little bit ago. I will hopefully be bringing my elderly friend to have fun with us. I have not deceided on what to prepare to this event. Alot depends on the weather, for me anyway. So there will be 2 of us for festivities.
I will post again when I have figured out what delicious items to bring with us!

    Hi,

Please look over the list above to double check how your dish is described.

Check nametags for accuracy - if you bring a guest and don't advise a first name, then their label will specify ______ guest of screen name. In many cases, I know the people and their likely guest/family member attending, so I filled in the blanks.

Here is a sorted list of contributions. If you have not contributed (or a mistake was made), your name is at the bottom of the list.

Labels and nametags won't be printed until Saturday late afternoon. Tartetatin will be official distributor of these at the picnic.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
