We actually talked for a bit about why people choose names other than their own for posting on chat sites. I understand the traditional need for anonymity, but I wonder if, with the proliferation of social media sites, the feeling will persist that you have to conceal your secret identity. Picking a nom de screen seems a carryover from the ham/CB radio days when you needed some catchy nickname like Rubber Ducky or The Silver Fox to keep the bears off your trail, and I wonder if, with time, we will all just use our real names (it’d make it easier for guys like me who have enough trouble remembering one name). But I digress: this monthly tradition is one I intend to support wholeheartedly, and I applaud teatpuller for coming up with the plan. It’s a fine way for locals to share area-specific intel and to strengthen the LTH bonds in the hinterlands.
