last week on my way up clark st. to romainian kosher sausage company, my eye was caught by a yellow banner hung over the door of what appeared to be a pharmacy advertising new york bagels&bialys. i parked and went in to discover a combo deli/ice cream parlor/small pharmacy. i bought 6 fresh bagels and a not very good potato knish; didnt check out the ice cream as i had taken my life in my hands by not feeding the green parking box. i know they make sandwiches as well. now i cant remember the name. i've searched for it by looking through lists of chicago delis and pharmacies but ran out of patience. i'm pretty sure the name starts with a 'G'. can anyone help? it might be in andersonville or a little north. definitely south of romainian kosher, which is 7200 north clark. thanks, justjoan

I think you're talking about J.B.'s Deli, mentioned in this thread, as well as a few others.

The location is indeed Andersonville and the G is for Gordono's (as set out in the thread linked to). Specifically:

JoelM wrote:Gordono's Pharmacy across from the Jewel on Broadway, in Edgewater. Its a neat, old style pharmacy/deli/soda jerk stand. Nice to see places like them still around.

More precisely, we're talking about JB's Deli located within Gordono's Pharmacy. Take a look at the thread for more detailed info.

thanks for locating this place for me. JB's deli carries new york bagels & bialys, not H&H, as joelM describes them. maybe they used to, but they don't now. it doesn't appear from the earlier thread that anyone has eaten at this place. i'll have to check it out. it's such an old-fashioned place, i felt like i'd walked into an earlier decade.... justjoan

I've eaten there. My only complaint is that the deli meat is the standard, cheap stuff.

Note: we should probably edit the title of this thread to include the name of the store/deli so it is easier to find; or, merge it with the other thread.

I am a fan of the matzo ball soup here. It does vary (sometimes there are carrots, sometimes not) but overall I always find it delicious!
