My journey has finally ended in trying to find the best Old Fashion Bakery Style Pizza. I recently stumbled upon a small pizzaria on the corner of 16th and Elmwood by the name of Luco's. A simple menu...yet effectively fresh. Huge pizza slices, huge subs and generous portions of fresh cut fries. Eat a 36 inch sub and win $50.00!!! If you are passing through Berwyn, I highly recommend stopping in at Luco's.
Great atmosphere, great people, and simply the best tasting food I've had in a long time.

Sounds like Luco's hired a PR firm.

Why, I've been looking for a place with "effectively fresh" food for some time. But that's not all you get! Giant Sub? Check. Huge pizza slices? Check. Great people, atmosphere, and food? Check, check, and check! Tell us more about this unique dining opportunity, Cheerio.

I'll eat the 36-inch sub if it gets me better spelling from the flack.

I've been meaning to investigate this joint for a while. This obviously 100% true posting just might nudge me to do it tomorrow for lunch if time permits.

I've eaten there. Their subs kick ass.

I've eaten there too. Their subs are OK. Their Italian sub does not favorably compare to Bari's and it is more expensive.

I have been dining around the Midwest for quite some time now...I have lived in and out of Berwyn for about 10 years...I have seen this building take on several names, serving everything from hot dogs and deep fried appetizers to fresh baked bread. It's obvious this establishment has a new vision with a dedication to serve quality food to the community of Berwyn. On a personal note, I wanted something good but close to home....and this place was it. I strongly suggest stopping here if you're in the area.

Ok...so I have been a long time friend of the owner...but would never let that intervene in making an honest statement about what is actually taking place at this facility. Please make note that as of Sept. 10th, this establishment had a new vision to serve only the most top shelf quality meats and freshest ingredients available on the market. They have upgraded everything from the exterior of the building, right down to the ingredients being used in their menu.
I appreciate your honesty, but strongly suggest you give it another chance....and maybe...just maybe...we can discuss this more over the Luco's challenge.
    Thanks for the comment.

Just dusted off half of my order.
    I'm immediately a fan.
Real meat, real mayo, and they use a decent bread. It might not be, but it's similar to Turano french - the typical Chicago sub loaf, I'll call it. I ordered a 9 inch "Sicilian" sandwich, a 9 inch turkey for Jr, and snausage slice, figuring on leftovers for dinner or lunch tomorrow. The Sicilian was piled pretty high with meat. Overkill, imo, but if you are into the cured meats, you'd prolly dig it.
The Turkey was close enough to REAL that I'd get it again with no hesitation. It wasn't that rectangular, deli jello loaf garbage. I'd compare it to Sara Lee deli turkey breast which is a product I will buy. It's not Thanksgiving turkey, but I can enjoy it as it's not over processed to the point of not even having the same appearance / texture as meat. The loaf stuff, though..ugh. Anyway, I'd consider a turkey sammich from Luco's anytime as a great sammich option at 5 bux.

The hot giardiniera packed a decent kick. Not sure if it was housemade, but I will tell you this: In my little one ounce solo cup side order of giardiniera was an entire clove of garlic. Not chopped. A big ass clove of garlic was just sittin there taking up like 1/4 of the cup. Kinda made me think it may have been house made.

The pizza was heavy. Not in a bad way. It was just heavy. Heavy dough. Not cracker crust, but heavy, chewy. Real cheese tho, and you can taste it. The sausage was not very good quality, IMO. Half of the pizza slice, and half of the 9 inch Sicilian was enough for me to tap out for lunch. This is pretty good stuff here, indeed. I think for the area, this will be a regular stop for a quick sammich for me. I can see being a regular for that turkey sandwich at 5 bux a pop. If their roast beef is real, fuggetaboutit, I'll be there all the time.

This place is essentially just a sandwich counter. I think there were stools. Kinda reminded me of a NY pizza slice joint. Two guys, an oven, and a prep counter. This place is immediately in my rotation.

Just say that upfront. You'll get a much better response. I don't work far from there, and always looking for different places

My apologies...there was no intention on being dishonest in any way, and I was completely unaware of how others might misunderstand the way I went about sharing my experience at Luco's.

I had tried to order from the previous place (Streetview) that was there, Pizza Ria and the language barrier was so strong that I was unable to get my order across and ended up ordering elsewhere.

I do on occasion try new places for pizza and I will give them a shot.

I am a little concerned that the number is the same. Is it the same owners?
Do they deliver and what is their range?
    Is there a website?

Back to test the roast beef waters and the fries. Roast beef was a little too processed for me. Fries were great, except, like so many other places that don't think things through, they were served in a paper bag wrapped tightly, which of course, is one of the french fry's worst enemeies. So, if they don't switch over to an over processed turkey loaf, this is my new joint for a close by turkey, or Italian sub and fries. Sounds stoopid, I know, but real bread, real meat, and real mayo is hard to come by these days for whatever reason. Subway, Potbelly, Mr Submarine, and Jimmy John's are all over the place, tho.

Anyone pop in this place recent? Like to see some photos of the real bread, mayo and meats.

I tried a sub a few months ago.
Honestly if I lived closer I'd go fairly often - it was not bad at all.

I recall that on my visit they were out of one of the meats for the Italian sub but happily doubled up on the others to make up for it. Making an effort to keep a customer happy - that definitely gets points in my book.
