Greek grocery stores

Anyone know of any in the city? I'm at a loss since Athens Market on Halsted was torched!

The only Greek market in Chicago that I'm aware of is Ellinikon Pandopoleion on the East Side. It's a quaint shop, worth a visit, but I doubt it will take care of all your Greek needs.

In the city, you can find some Greek products at multi-ethnic grocers such as Devon Market (1440 W Devon) and A&G Market (5630 W Belmont). Don't forget Treasure Island is Greek owned so they have some Greek foods (eg, cheeses, Easter specialties) you might not expect.

Fairly close to Chicago is Brillakis Import Foods in Niles, a pretty good all-Greek grocery. But the best Greek market by far is Minos Imports in Addison, quite a hike from the city.

Not in the city, but two that come to mind are Eurofresh in Tinley Park, and Ted's Imported Foods in Merrillville, IN. There's also a small market on US30 in Schererville, IN that has Greek products; it's next to a banquet hall. There's a huge Greek population in NW Indiana with several festivals during the year. Some of them even have drive-thru operations.

Fresh Farms in Niles has a pretty extensive selection of Greek items. Depending on what you're looking for, you can most likely find it there.

HarvesTime Foods carries a moderate selection of Greek foods and serves what is left of the once-large Greek community in Lincoln Square. They sell a lot of whole lambs around Greek Easter.

i would second Minos..even though its not in the city it might be worth your while to take a bit farther of a drive..the fresh bread baked on premises along with roasted lamb is worth the price of admission alone

The folks from Minos Imports own a small chain of grocery stores called Brookhaven Marketplace. They have stores in Darien, Burr Ridge, and Mokena, and most of what you'll find at their (small) shop in Addison, you'll find on the shelves at Brookhaven. And I suspect the Brookhaven stores carry a number of items imported by Minos that aren't on the shelves at the Addison shop.

I also believe they're part-owners of Westbrook Market, which has stores in Westmont and Downers Grove. Perhaps someone could verify this...

the son runs Brookhaven..although they carry a nice supply of ethnic product including Greek you wont get a lot of the product at Brookhaven that you will at Minos..Brookhaven is more of a small grocer along the lines of Valli Produce or Super Low..where Minos is specficially Greek specialties

loramdw, I find that big produce stores run by Greek immigrant families sometimes have lots of Greek products. Both Marketplace on Oakton and Produce World come to mind, although neither is in the city proper. Both have extensive offerings of olive oil, olives, Greek-style breads, feta and other Greek cheeses, yogurts, Greek pastas, frozen items, deli items and more. This little store carries almost everything you want, including lamb cut fresh to order while you wait, house-made sausage, imported cheeses, olives, olive oil, and roast lamb and pork on weekends and holidays.

Berwyn Fruit Market, at Ogden & Harlem, has quite a few imported Greek items.

Speaking of Athens Grocery, anyone know their status? Are they ever reopening? They were our go-to place for olives and we can't find comparable olives anywhere. Their pitted green were the best ever. Where can I ever find olives that good again??
