Looking for a romantic "hole in the wall" place for Saturday

Hey All,

Taking the wife out to dinner this Saturday and I'd like to surprise her with a romantic dinner at a not so obvious place. This could be off the beaten path and not a place we would have to wait hours for a table (if reservations were not available). We will be traveling from the NW burbs so anywhere in and around the city is good.
By romantic place I'm referring to the lighting, possibly a table hidden away or secluded from the rest of the restaurant, things like that. Of course the food has to be good.

Italian, American, Steak, Seafood, its all pretty much open. I know there has to be some good gems out there that hasnt blown up yet from Yelp or Check Please.

I'm sure the dessert is already taken care of.

What about Sabatino's in Old Irving Park? Ask for a grotto room. It can be loud, but I think that it is fun and charming place for a date.

Opera has the Vault Rooms:

I'm a woman. I like both Sabatino's & Opera, but I don't think they are the least bit romantic. I would also anticipate that on a weekend they would be loud.

I would try Mizu, Kiki's Bistro, North Pond, or Naha. None of these are holes-in-the-wall.

I can't think of any hole-in-the -wall places that I think are romantic. Sorry.

If good food, but not necessarily quiet, dark, or romantic are options then I would look at

GNR's Sweets & Savories (call now for a reservation), Spacca Napoli, Great Lake ( it's very, very tiny), or Mado.

Other suggestions: Blackbird, Lula Cafe, Nightwood, & my beloved Prairie Fire.

If you want just dessert, again not a hole in the wall, try the Peninsula for their Chocolate Bar (call first).

I'd recommend Bistro Campagne in Lincoln Square. It's not really a hole in the wall, but I'd give it a romantic nod. As with some others, not terribly quiet, but I've never noticed it being too loud.

I second this.....DISCLAIMER: My dear dear friend owns it, but I still think its dang good!

How about Cafe Matou?

there are no private rooms, but it's quiet, romantically lit,
and the food and service are good...

Geja's is romantic, but I don't find the food to be good at all (they're interesting, but it stops right there).
