If you like beer, and want to expand your beer tasting experiences, you should check out pintley.com. As they state on their website, "Pintley is an online community for beer novices and aficionados." The concept is pretty straightforward. You create a free profile, and rate beers that you've already had and liked or disliked (there's a 5 "pint" scale). Based on your ratings, it recommends other beers you should try. The more ratings you do, the more personalized and customized the recommendations get. There's a good introductory video, which gives a pretty good intro to the website.

Prepare to be addicted though. After I signed up, I was pretty useless at work for the first few days. Thanks to LTH'r inter4alia for introducing me to the site, and almost costing me my job  . Enjoy...

Seems rather limited. For example, nothing on local faves Half Acre, Pipeworks, Finch, Argus or Metropolitan brews.

I actually thought it was pretty good. One example is that they had beers listed from the Biddy Early Brewery, which closed in 2007, but was the first brewpub in Ireland. I was there; loved their beer, and out of curiousity checked to see if Pintley.com had their beers listed and they did, which shocked me. Although that's a very specific example, generally speaking, I have had nothing but a good experience so far.

Anyway, it seems as though you have your reasons for thinking that it's limited. Although I disagree, I think it's important to keep in mind that the site is still relatively young, and that there is a way to add or suggest that beers/breweries be added. The people running the site seem to be very responsive.

So far I’ve rated 80 beers, including several from such U.S. breweries
as: Three Floyds, New Glarus, Goose Island, Brooklyn, Sprecher, Avery,
Lagunitas, Ommegang, North Coast, Dogfish Head, Bells, Big Sky, Green
Flash, Harpoon, Allagash, Two Brothers, Great Lakes, Arcadia, Capital,
and many many more. In addition, I’ve rated many from other
countries. The site has recommended 200 beers to me based upon the
ratings I gave the 80 beers that I’ve rated thus far.

I’m not here to defend the website, because I have no actual interest
in it, but I think it is far from accurate or fair to call it “rather
limited.” Certainly, it is not all inclusive of every microbrewery in
the U.S., or even Chicago specifically. However, for a rather new
site I think it is fair to say that they have a rather substantial
database – as you can see from the short sample of the breweries I
listed above. Now, if you have tasted hundreds and hundreds of beers
over multiple decades and/or you have been home brewing for a long
time, then maybe this site has little to no value to you. However,
for the 95% of the rest of the beer enjoying public, I’d say there is
a good chance that it likely provides some useful guidance – or a
certain amount of entertainment, at least.

In addition to the sleeve, I’ve recommended the site to several other
friends and they have all enjoyed it and found it helpful.
