Saison Deluxe from Southampton. I'm a sucker for this style of beer and this one is my favorite. Comes in a 750ml format. Is almost always the last one on the shelf when I pick it up at binny's-LP.

Might not be in stock at this moment, but South Bay Drugs in San Diego does online beer sales. Joey, the guy that runs the beer portion of the store, is super nice. Check out their website it shows what they have in stock currently. You can follow the store on twitter and he posts what new beers he gets in each day. He also has an email list that he sends updates out to.

Also, it wouldn't be that hard to set up a trade on beer advocate or ratebeer. Pliny is a pretty easy beer to trade for. A 4 pack of Daisy Cutter would probably get it done.

thanks. he actually quoted me for 4 Pliny and 2 10.10.10s (you must buy at least 6). i'm wondering if i should mix it up a little more than that... any recommendations?

i might do the trade instead. Binny's only has Daisy Cutter in bombers online--i'll check the store

You can buy the 10.10.10 here, so I wouldn't spend the shipping money to buy them from Cali. If you want more IPA's I'd go with Kern River Just Outstanding IPA. If you want to get some sours he has Russian River Temptation or Consecration in stock.

I might try Wade's Wines. I'm not sure if they ship beer but their inventory looks pretty amazing. Anytime I'm looking for a source for alcoholic beverages I go to www.wine-searcher.com and can usually find a source or three.

Old Heaven Hill Gold Label, Bottled in Bond...on the rocks. Starting a write-in campaign to get Binny's to carry this stuff (it's distributed in IL -bars carry it- but it's not for sale in any stores AFAIK). At $9 per 750 ML ($19 for 1.75) in Kentucky, it is a total steal. Drinks like bourbon more than double the cost. Brought back 2.75L for myself and 1.5L for friends...leading the wife to think I may have gone a little over board on the whiskey buying junket...

Let me preface this by saying this may have been the most selfless thing I have ever done:

Guys. Pappy Van Winkle 15 yr at Warehouse Liquors on Wabash and Harrison.

    $55 a bottle.

    I said $55 a bottle.

Given that they price the 12 yr at $51, and that I've never seen the 15 year priced under $75, this is perhaps the greatest deal on the face of the Earth. Now you can go and buy out their selection before I can afford to get another bottle.

Just the fact that they have it in stock is miraculous but I've regularly seen/bought it for under $60/bottle . . . most recently this past spring from Grand Cru Wine Merchants, the owner of which -- Craig B -- posts in these forums. When my local Binny's gets it, it runs about $55/bottle but this past spring they ended up with only a 12-bottle allocation for the entire store (and limited purchases to 1 bottle per customer).

The bottom line is that you are indeed quite selfless to even mention that the stuff is available. :)

Warehouse is a real gem of a place, with a very good selection of harder to find bourbons (including the Buffalo Trace antiques). Worth talking to the owner (who knows his bourbons) if you get a chance, as he apparently has a good supply pipeline and suggested that he has access to certain stocks of harder to find bourbons than the bigger/chain liquor stores, and seems happy to help get something in if he can even if it is not on the shelves.

With respect to the 15 year family reserve, I would not be surprised to see a price spike on the next batch that comes in. I agree with ronnie_suburban that the 15 year generally was available for about $55-60 at Binny's (I remember buying a bottle 4 or 5 years ago for as little as $40 -- ah, the good old days), but one of the workers at Binny's effectively told me to buy it up whenever/wherever I could find it due both to supply/scarcity issues and because "that is just too good of a price," with the implication that future pricing will be higher. If you look at pricing online (which is scarce, as the product is increasingly difficult to find), it is generally higher than the $55-60 range (usually about $70-80 per bottle); here in town, for instance, House of Glunz (which is sold out) lists it at $70 (which seems in the normal range) and Drinks Over Dearborn (also sold out) lists it at a shade under $100 (which is way too high, IMO, but they are a specialty store with presumably lower sales volumes and higher overhead (based on location)). My guess is after the current allocation/shipment runs out, pricing on the next will be higher.

I just took my first trip to Warehouse Liquors after walking past it many times (almost always on my way to Sam's Wine in the South Loop before it closed) and always writing it off. It was truly awesome, a great little store and knowledgable and friendly staff. I picked up a bottle of the Pappy 15.

    Great find!

Might be time to do like Julian Van Winkle.

http://campsmoke.fmallen.com/?p=2974, contains a convesation with Julian Van Winkle III.

If you couldn’t make great booze for a living, what would you be doing?

Good question. I’ve got no idea. Maybe at least selling someone else’s bourbon. I love wine. Maybe I could learn how to produce that!

If you are in the mood for a drink and are NOT drinking bourbon, what are you drinking?

I really enjoy single malt Scotch. Not the peaty stuff but the Highland or Speyside brands. I frequently have some after dinner instead of bourbon. I also enjoy a good vodka tonic in the summer or a good margarita. With a meal, it’s always wine.

FOBAB was awesome. I sampled over 50 beers and the vast majority were outstanding. The real standouts were:
    Destihl Framboise
    FiftyFifty Elijah Hill Eclipse
Fitger's Bourbon Barrel Edmund Imperial Stout
    Fitger's Frank's Special Lambic
    Flossmoor Station Rosie Pom
    GI Ancho BCS
    GI Dominique
    GI Sweet Southern Kiss
New Belgium Blackberry Whiskey Barrel Love
    New Belgium Tart Lychee
    3 Floyds Chocolate City
    Upland Strawberry Lambic

Only real disappointment was the Oakshire Barrel Aged Barleywine. Probably because I had it pretty hyped up in my head, but it was kind of a mess. Super fresh barleywine and minimal barrel flavoring.

3 oz of Campari, shaken with ice and a heavy pinch of Blis fleur de sel...the idea came from here, and I'll be damned if this isn't one of the weirdest taste sensations I've ever experienced. At first, the bitterness of the Campari is all but gone. You taste all the rest of its syrupy, orange layers, followed by something I can only describe as the sweetness I associate with salted watermelon (one of my dad's favorite snacks). Finally, all the bitterness floods back onto the palate, like nothing ever changed, like sipping Campari neat.

If you like the regular BCS then you're not gonna be disappointed by this. I think the vanilla mainly enhances the bourbon flavor. Big, chocolatey, boozy but smooth with a fairly clean bitter finish from the dark malts. I grabbed a couple bottles to bring home (haven't seen it on shelves yet, I think I paid a premium to buy it at the brewpub but I don't regret it) and also a growler of a very interesting blonde ale with a big lavender nose rounded out by some assertive American hops.

You definitely paid a premium ($20 vs. $12.99), but it's probably worth it since this is basically selling out in a matter of hours. Binny's in LP sold out in 6 hours.
