i'd love to have one last meal at cafe matou, as it's one of my favorite chicago restaurants. i was wondering if there would be any interest on the board in joining me for dinner. i don't have a date in mind, i'm completely open to suggestion.
this isn't a small plates kind of place, so i don't envision a lot of sharing (though i'm always up for tasting everything), but was thinking a good plan would be a smallish group where we would order what we wanted and pay for what we ordered. weeknights offer a less expensive prix fixe menu option so that might be a reason to go then. if there is any interest, please post here. matou closes on the 14th of november. justjoan

The only free evening I have between now and closing is next Tues., 11/9. But if anyone was interested in an after-work dinner that night, Mrs. B. and I would love to do it. I've read about Matou and Socher all these years but never been. Menu looks lovely.

i'm free on the 9th, so let's do it. what time would be convenient for you and mrs.B? i'll wait till tomorrow to make a reservation in case others want to join us. thanks for your interest; i hope you like it as much as i do. my last meal was in may and it was everything i love about french cooking. cafe matou is about 2 blocks SE of the western stop on the blue line, if you are coming by train. and there is plenty of free parking on the side streets. joan

Between 6:30 and 7:00 would work for us, coming from NE and West loop offices, respectively. Thanks for the L stop coordinates. We're carless, and that will work beautifully.
If there hasn't a mad rush to get in before closing, maybe we'll be able to expand our group incrementally over a couple of days if interest swells.
I really can't imagine not liking it based on many postings, reviews, and chef's overall rep. I feel bittersweet that it takes this sort of news to get us out in the first place. But there it is.
    Looking forward.
Will check back here for any news/changes. And of course you can PM anything urgent.
    Thanks so much for initiating.

i'm afraid there's a problem with next tuesday, mr.B. i just called the restaurant to get a sense of how crazy busy they'll be, and talked to susan socher, who owns the place with her chef brother, charlie. they are having the last of their very popular wine region dinners that night, and are all booked up (it's on bordeaux). she says at the moment they have seating available all other nights. i know you said tuesday is your only available night, so i think maybe i'm back to square one. any chance you can clear any other night? i'm free tomorrow, the 5th, sunday, the 7th, and then on the 11th and 12th and 13th. joan

Damn. I even got the sitter booked.
Unfortunately my conflicts are performances, so I have no leeway whatever. One more week and I would have been free as a bird.
    Alas.
    Well, enjoy and report back.

Hi justjoan, I too have never been to Cafe Matou but would like the chance to go before they close.

If your Thursday is still open, would you like to set something up?
