Not sure if it's been posted here or in the Kabul House thread, but the Elk Grove Village location is "temporarily closed"- discovered that tonight when we tried to go for dinner. Are there still possibilities of another location in Skokie, on Oakton, I think?

ETA: Oops, looks like that was reported in the Kabul House thread in early August.

Also, the space formerly occupied by Bennigan's in Lake Zurich on Rand Rd. now has a sign that says "Beelow's Steakhouse Opening Soon"...the font and overall style of the sign looked like a cartoon-y kids version of a steakhouse....this does not fill me with hope.

According to someone at work "in the know", the former manager of Don Roth's Blackhawk will be managing Beelow's...and this article confirms that, with some additional info.

Beelow's is open, as of yesterday.

A sign a couple of doors north of Gaztro-Wagon on Clark announces that something called the Double Apple Grocery is coming. Could it really be this Double Apple?

Has anyone heard about a new gourmet hot dog place coming to the loop? My friend told me about but I can't find anything about it online. He is under the impression that it's a gourmet dog place like Hot Dougs, fRedHots, Franks N' Dawgs, etc. Supposedly it is going on at Wells and Madison (on the east side of Wells under Washington/Well L Stop). I will try to swing by after work tonight but thought I'd see if anyone had any intel here.

There is supposed to be a place called Westminster Hot Dog going in at 11 N. Wells. They're on twitter as WestminsterHD but the web page listed doesn't load and there hasn't been a tweet since October 8th so I don't know if the project is still on or not.

Ta Koz, the best of the Tri-Taylor taquerias, has re-opened in a new location after a hiatus of several months. The new location is just a few doors east of their old spot and is right next door to Conte di Savoia West (another good spot for lunch in Tri-Taylor). Off menu items at Ta Koz include gorditas and homemade tamales.

Cy's 20+ years ago was a pretty solid value (which is about the last time I went there).

Coming home from the Boys Night Out where the topic of this long opening place was mentioned I decided to do a driveby...

    Image
Paper off and decorations in the windows.

    Image
Chairs and tables. Still some debris on the floor and gents still working in the kitchen.

Cannot be too long now (Nov 18th? or maybe the first week in December?)...

A new branch of Jaffa Bakery (restaurant) is opening in the former convenience store/dry cleaner site at Devon and McCormick in Lincolnwood. I don't know the planned opening date--just saw the sign as I drove by. With a little googling, I find that Lincolnwood approved Jaffa's plans (with some changes) in June.

That's the old cigar/cigarette store. The dry cleaner is at the other end of the block and still open.

I didn't see it posted and sorry if it has been, but an empty storefront on Argyle just west of Sheridan has papered over windows and a sign announcing the coming arrival of Masala, which is billing itself as Indian / Thai food. It will be nice to get some new life into that stretch.

No great shakes but it filled the occasional void.

Is it possible the only remaining Hoagie Hut is in Waukegan? I will keep an eye out the next time I am up there.

Signs have been up for a few weeks and now the website is up for UB Dogs Inc. at 185 N. Franklin

Looks to be Vienna products from the little icon dealie that pops up in the site address

Pretty much just dogs, fresh cut fries, and italian beef from the menu on the site.

JK Sweets on Clark in downtown Evanston--the site of an April 2008 Evanston Lunch Group get-together--now has its windows papered over and a sign that reads "Opening soon under new management." Back in 2008, ChgoMike described JK Sweets as follows:
    >>JK Sweets, Evanston's unique Korean-sandwich-ice cream-coffee shop and more location<<
No indication on what the new management has in mind, although all the plastic representations of Korean food can still be seen in the windows.

Plus you have Meatheads, Whole Foods, Sweet Tomatoes, Steak & Shake, IHOP, Pinstripes, and more if you extend the range another block or two. I'm dubious, I'd rather see another family dining than a set of counter service places.
