Wife is out of town, so the boy and I went on a ramble. Stopped into Nottoli's Deli on Belmont and then Mazzeo Bakery. I buy Mazzeo's bread quite a bit at Caputo's, but have never been into the bakery itself. I would highly recommend you drop in if you're in the neighborhood.

Artichoke and Ricotta Pizza-Bread: Tasted better than it looks! Nice and salty. I added a drizzle of olive oil at home. Not sure the exact cost, must have been about $3.

Filled-to-order cannolo ($1.50) and "spice" biscotti ($6.75/lb). Cannolo filling was very light and not sweet at all. I prefer the cannolo "death bombs" myself -- pasty and supersweet -- but I'm weird that way. Nuts on the ends were peanuts, which I don't think is ideal. Biscotti was standard Chicago/Italian variety, but the flavor was pleasantly "spicy."

The folks running the shop appeared to be the husband/wife owners. They were very pleasant and answered my nosy questions.

If you're in the area, stop in. I'm sure you can find something of interest. Bread is actually the money-maker I think. They do a nice array of Italian styles.

I was wondering why there was food coloring on the nuts. Now I know why - to make the peanuts look like pistachios.
