A friend found this intriguing photo while surfing the web and neither of us has any idea what it is (or if it's even a fruit at all). I assured him I knew where we could discover the name and probably a description. Anyone familiar with this pink product?

    Hi,

Your specimen is Dragon Fruit, which has been discussed here before.

Great! I knew we'd get answers but wouldn't have guessed so fast.

    Thanks!

It's generally peeled and then sliced. The flesh is white with little black seeds peppered throughout. Should have a nice sweet flavor. Not sure what to compare it with. It's ubiquitious in S.E. Asia.

The flesh can be crisp like an apple or even jicama, but the taste is mild and slightly sweet. The kiwi is the closest comparable taste that I can think of, off hand.

I've only eaten them freshly peeled and sliced as well as in fruit salad. I've never seen the juice on offer; has anyone tried it? And a friend reported seeing frozen dragon fruit recently on Argyle.

This is the first time I have seen dragon fruit. Anybody know if it ever makes it to Canada? I have not seen it around.

    Thanks
