LTH cookie exchange, 12/5/10

This is the time for the annual cookie exchange.
We would meet at COOKIEMONSTER'S PLACE on December 5 at 2PM.
i would like to keep the group to maximum of 12 people, including dobra.
Please RSVP and if you are not sure don't put your name on the list at all.
This keeps the space open for a person who can actually attend.

Everyone goes to a great deal of trouble to make wonderful cookies so I want to make
sure that there are people who will appreciate it. thanks, cookiemonster

Is the date the 4th or the 5th?

I am going to say that I am in-
although I have no idea what or when I am going to bake...
but I think we do need clarification on the date-
If it is on Saturday the 4th it is the same day as the LTH Xmas party, and maybe we should make it a bit earlier...
If it is on Sunday the 5th, is there any chance we can nudge it a bit later?
(either that or I may arrive a bit late...)

Joan, you have this listed as Sunday December 5th in the Subject Line, but in the body of the text it is listed as Saturday, December 4th.

If it's Saturday, December 4th (same day as the LTHForum party) I'm in.

I don't know, though people do get super busy. Why not discuss this at the dessert exchange on Sunday.

Also can everyone bring a copy of the recipe for their cookie as it is fun to make the cookie later.

I won't be there on Sunday to discuss, but would like to add my vote not for a later day , but for later IN the day. (maybe 3 or 3:30)

I missed last year but would love to join everyone this year.

I have missed the last couple of years, and would love to attend this year's. It even falls on my birthday so I won't need to get a birthday cake this year! Thanks!

Edited to add - mine turned out very tasty but very sweet. I think I transcribed the recipe wrong and put in too much sugar. So if you think of these more like candy than cookies, they are in the right neighborhood I also added Grand Marnier to the apricot jam filling. I used Smuckers "all fruit" version. Chocolate was from Trader Joe's.

Is there a ballpark amount of cookies we should bring? ...for example, a batch to sample and a batch for folks to bring home?

Is it similar to a dessert exchange, which is actually a very lovely party? Or a shorter affair?

Assuming this event is limited to 12 people, you make 13 dozen cookies. One each to sample at the event and a dozen of each type for people to bring home.

You arrive with 13 dozen cookies made at home. You leave with 12 dozen cookies made by your friends.

It is a lot of baking, though you get a lot of variety in return.

Gulp! This sounds ambitious. I'm glad mmmdonuts asked the question. Hmmm, given the party the night before and work the day after I think I should bow out and make way for the hard-core.

yeah--this was the deal killer for me too--ain't know WAY I want 12 dozen cookies in my house When I've done these with friends, we make a dozen to eat and 2 dozen to share and everyone takes a few. May not be as exact but it's much more reasonable for making and taking home.

I'm sure the cookies will be wonderful though!!

Maybe if it looks like we are low on attendance we could/should consider decreasing to 1/2 dozen of each type, so it would be 7 dozen total?
What does the group think of that idea?
Would that change the picture for those who are overwhelmed at the thought of 13 dozen?

How this event is conducted is Dobra's call. I reflected how it has worked to date. Making 156 cookies is three or four batches and sometimes less depending on the recipe.

My use of these cookies beyond personal and family consumption has been to make cookie gifts to others. Most obtained this year will go to a graduation party. It saves me lots of time collecting a variety of cookies in a short period of time.

Another heavy duty cookie baker I know sends cookies to her husband's office after the holidays.

It is not too difficult to give a homemade cookie away.

I just went through this thread to understand who is reserved, it is ten people including Dobra. I'm not quite sure mmmdonuts and boudrealicious position. If they want in and they get first dibs, then a full dozen is met.
