Oddly enough, the Chicago outpost of Leo's on Southport now has a liquor license and is sporting $2 bottled beers. Including Michigan-focused micros. Like Bell's Two Hearted. I actually enjoy the core food products -- the Koegel's-based coneys and the Greek salad (though no anchovies is a travesty). The other stuff on the broad diner-style menu has uniformly disappointed. But all the food is sort of pricey for what you get. They also now deliver. Might have a cold 6 pack of Bell's brought over.

Anchovies are definitely disappearing from preparations where they're integral to the compostion. Even more egregious (to me) than absent anchoives on Greek salad is the lack of anchovies in many Caesar salads. Crazy.

Other than David Burke's, I don't know of anywhere that even makes a Caesar's Salad any more. Opening a bottle of dressing and pouring it over some romaine lettuce does not a Caesar salad make.

I find that a lot of Italian/pizza places offer the Caesar salad, sometimes with 'chovies (Gulliver's) usually not (Lou Malnati).

Another gripe: shaving Parm on top; it should be blended with the lemon, olive oil, etc.

You consider those proper Caesar salads? I guess our definitions of "Caesar Salad" differ.

I was specifically addressing the use of anchovies. As far as "proper," there are a number of steakhouses in addition to Burke's that do a Caesar salad that deserves the name. Morton's is an obvious one.
