With Thanksgiving right around the corner I'm curious to find out which haunts in Evanston have the best pumpkin desserts. Ice cream, cake, pie, muffins...the more the merrier. Extra points if it's reasonalby priced (NU is far from cheap :))

As of yesterday, Fraîche Cafe on Noyes was still making pumpkin whoopie pies, $3 or $3.50.

Andy's Frozen Custard was offering a pumpkin pie concrete, but I don't know if that's still available.

Unicorn Cafe on Sherman carries Hoosier Mama pies, including maybe pumpkin at this time of year.

Not pumpkin, but the frosted spice cookies at Al's Deli evoke the spice of pumpkin pie for me.

(I've lost track, but make sure also to check if any of these places offer Wildcard discounts.)

Bennison's has amazing pumpkin doughnuts and pumpkin pies.

Andy's Frozen Custard's Pumpkin Pie Concretes are to die for...I think they might have ended though, since they were a seasonal treat that I thoroughly enjoyed on a few too many occasions :) It's probably best for my health that they are not available year-round.

EDIT: The Pumpkin Pie Concrete is still around, but just for a few more days! If you haven't tried it yet, definitely stop by before it's too late.

Not pumpkin - but Simple Gourmet is advertising sweet potato pie (which I kind of prefer) on their Thanksgiving menu, and Bar-B-Que Bob's (technically in Chicago, but just barely) has it as well. (Simple Gourmet is offering pumpkin whoopie pies, too)

Speaking of Bennison's....their Thanksgiving menu has lots of pumpkin goodness: http://www.bennisonsbakery.com/thanksgiving.html

Pumpkin Pie: Our Pumpkin Pie recipe has remained unchanged since 1938. We use fresh milk, evaporated milk, fresh eggs, honey and a special blend of spices. No milk powder, glucose or starches here! We also use a secret baking technique that makes our pies extra special. Available in 8" for $9.99 and 9" for $10.99, our Pumpkin Pie is made and baked fresh the day you order it, never prepared in advanced or frozen.

Pumpkin Muffins: Slightly sweet muffin batter spiced just right. Filled with cream cheese before baking for a real harvest time treat. Each muffin is $2.01.

Pumpkin Breakfast Bread: Pumpkin puree is blended with brown sugar, spices and walnuts to make a really tasty, moist loaf. Good for breakfast, with dinner, or even as dessert! Loaves are $5.69.

Pumpkin Sourdough: We make this loaf with natural, airborn yeast instead of compressed yeast. We use toasted organic pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, honey, roasted pumpkin puree, and a pinch of pumpkin spice in a dough made with unbleached, unbromated white flour and organic stone ground whole wheat flour. Rolled in more toasted pumpkin seeds, it's a slightly sweet, hearty loaf that goes great with a meal. Loaves are $4.51 each.

Speaking of bread...it's a short bike ride from campus, but Great Harvest Bread Co. on Central used to make a respectable pumpkin chocolate chip bread. While you're up there, you might see what Tag's has in the way of pumpkin. I've never taken to Bennison's or Tag's, but I remember liking sweets from the latter slightly more than the former. For pumpkin sourdough, I'd skip Bennison's and take the intercampus shuttle downtown and go to Fox & Obel. It's worth the hike, but call first. I didn't see any pumpkin sourdough when I stopped in yesterday morning, but it was very early.

Blind Faith Cafe is a vegetarian restaurant at Dempster and Chicago. I love their desserts and think that they usually do a regular and vegan version of pumpkin pie around now.
