I spotted B&W cookies at New York Bagel & Bialy the other day. I'd try one and report back, but I haven't the foggiest as to what they are supposed to taste like, so that wouldn't be any help. (I might eat one anyway, just cuz.)

Don't rush. The word "abysmal" comes to mind. Close to tasteless frosting and the thinnest, cracker-iest cookies I think I've ever had. And they had the chutzpah to charge around $2 or more per crappy cookie. (LDC didn't save the receipt so we're figuring roughly.)

Saw them at the Whole Foods in Northbrook today. $1.99 for a large prepackaged cookie.

FYI - The store has just rearranged their baked goods so they are now on the shelves between the dairy cooler and the personal care products.

We've bought them, as well. They're good. I still think Nordstrom's has the best B&Ws around here, but the Costco ones definitely satisfy a craving.

While shopping in Dominick's the other day, I also noticed that another east cost favorite cookie of mine has made its way out here...Mallomars!! I love Mallomar season and plan to stock the freezer for the summer when they are scarce again.

Olivia's Market on Wabansia just off Damen has them. They are OK. Cakey, but no hint of lemon flavor. They ice the whole in white, then put chocolate over that.

I know some recipes call for lemon, but B&Ws were always a huge part of my family's meals growing up out east and I never recall my favorite ones having any detectable lemon flavor. And personally, I don't like the way the lemon and chocolate taste together. Of course, ymmv.
