Italian/Prune plums: Are they available in cans or jars?

My family makes a plum cake that uses the Italian or "prune" plum. These are only available near the end of summer. A relative asked if I could make a plum cake for Thanksgiving, but it's not the season. Does anyone know if they sell these plums in a can or jar?

I have seen these at local grocery stores (possibly the Jewel on Howard?) I don't know if they are the variety you're looking for.

I have the ultimate respect for your knowledge, but how are you doing at filling up an empty Osco?

Ah. I know some things but cannot say....there's a possibility that change may come in the not distant future, although the past efforts are truly and really never going to happen.

However, this has been said a number of times, so nobody get excited, please.

There are also a number of really exciting possibilities on Howard St. in the near future, I'll post as I have confirmation (and BTW, if you're in the mood for Jamaican or Haitian, Howard St. will be putting on some neverbefore seen Holiday finery within the next few weeks.)

Why not make a prune cake? Don' t laugh they are quite delicious.

I actually thought about that. I thought that I might soak them in hot liquid to plump them up first.

I went to the Jewel today and there was one lonely can of Oregon Plums and the "use by date" was October 2010. Oh well...
