An excellent young man, and there seemed to be enough going on at Sun Wah that he seemed pretty much content throughout the many courses.

I just spoke with Patty about veggie options, which though slight sound filling:

    Lots of cheese
A few salads (mixed green with citrus, bed of greens)
    Potato salad
New potatoes with dill and butter
    Mashed potato
Sometimes pasta salad (but sometimes there's shrimp in there)
    Swedish brown beans
    Pickled beet
    Pickled cucumber
Bread and crackers of various sorts

Tough slight? I tried to parse this, but couldn't. But thanks for asking about this. A couple more dishes like the brown beans, and it sound like a fine dinner for the veg-inclined.

The bride and I have decided to doff our hair shirts for an evening and partake of this delicious event - and I do mean the food and company. Swedish though she is (Svenska flcka), she denies ever having enjoyed such a meal and maintains there is no likelihood she will channel her ancestors and attack the Czechs, or any Mittel Europeans present, as postprandial entertainment.

    Gift Exchange

Every year at the LTH holiday party, we have a gift exchange. Here’s the idea: you bring a gift worth about $10, get a ticket in return, and then receive someone else’s gift. In the past, there have been some truly remarkable offerings. Last year, we saw:

    • A selection of Dark Lord beers (went to a non-beer drinker, and, yes, the irony killed)
    • A basket of preserved goodies (incredible)
    • Cured meat (grand)

Recommendation: bring something you’d want to win.

The gingerbread house was incredible, of course, and there were a number of other remarkable gifts, but I just pulled out the three that came to mind. I beg no one else to take offense, please, if I did not mention your gift.

David, thanks for prompting everyone to think about the gift exchange, a really fantastic (and funny!) part of the holiday parties. Almost as much fun as the exchange itself is the pre-party thinking about what to bring... :)

irisarbor, the picture of your gingerbread house made our son go from mild interest in the LTH party to insane eagerness to attend. Now *he's* thinking about what to contribute to the gift exchange! :D

How many Jewish mothers does it take to change a light bulb?
None. I'll just sit here in the dark.

I love your gingerbread houses, irisarbor, and would cheerfully cheat my way to winning the raffle for one!

We have received some really great gifts. I doubt anything is actually worth the $10 limit, I think many are worth far more, and some are truly priceless! It's the creativity and care taken that make it so much fun.

Can those of you who dine at Tre Kronor regularly advise regarding parking? Street parking, lot, or valet? Parking meters, city money boxes, or free? (So I know if I need quarters.)

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,

Since we are starting at 8 pm, you only need to worry about paying an hour's parking fees. I have parked in front for a fee as well as in the neighborhood for free. It is not a congested area especially during the time we will be there.

    Regards,

Just to add to Cathy's info, note that along Foster you will find parking boxes that take cash or debit/credit cards. But if you turn north from Foster on any side street (south of Foster is North Park University), you should be able to find parking on a side street such as Spaulding. I agree with Cathy that the area should not be very congested, although you might have to walk a block or so if you're unlucky (or arrive after all the other LTHers). See you Saturday!
