Help! Good food near Daley Plaza on Sunday afternoon

My wife and I are meeting my sister and her husband this Sunday afternoon. They want to walk around Daley Plaza and see Kindlemart, and I told her I would find a good place to eat. They will only be in for a few hours, so it needs to be near downtown, walking distance. They love good food, live near Lake Geneva and don't get quality city food that often, so I want to take them somewhere really great.

I thought of Xoco, but they are closed Sunday. I thought of Pastoral, but the seating there is super limited and you can't get a beer, which they will want. I also thought of Saigon Sisters but aarrrgh! they are also closed on Sunday!

I'd suggest targeting places that serve brunch on Sundays. Most do so well into the afternoon (till 2 or 3 pm).

Within one block:

Within 5 blocks or so:

Sable
Shaw's (great buffet brunch)

Petterino's offers brunch every Sunday from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, perfect before a matinee theatre performance or to enjoy before touring the city with family and friends.

Why not eat at the Christkindlmarket? You can get beer and spiced wine in their heated beer tent as well as decent German fare from the food vendors plus the added bonus of some unique holiday shopping (great ornaments, crafts , and candies).

That seems like a capital idea! But...the OP seemed to intentionally overlook it, so I didn't suggest it. But, heck, for food you can't find at a lot of other places in Chicago (curried wiener patties!), that'd be my first choice. In the past, there have been places at the market you can eat indoors.

You are a long walk or short cab ride from both Avec and Prairie Fire, though Avec does not open until 3:30 on Sunday.

If you are willing to go as for as Xoco, then there are a ton of possibilities. I'd suggest Gage (make reservations) or hell, even Miller's pub, which was recently talked about here. I would avoid Petterino's. Primehouse has a very reasonable lunch menu, not sure if it's open at that time.

I was there last Saturday and there are two heated tents with picnic table style seating where you can eat as well as get that warm fuzzy feeling from the Gluhwein.

On Sundays David Burke's Primehouse is open for breakfast 7-11 and for brunch 11-3. Their current weekend brunch menu offers burgers and sandwiches as well as breakfast fare. However it's a bit further than the other suggestions here.

Pie Lady and I walked from Prairie Fire to Siskel Film Center for Kings of Pastry this afternoon in approximately 16 minutes at a leisurely stroll.

Double Check but I also think, during the holidays the 7th floor of Macy's is open, so they can get their Bayless fix there & there's also my beloved Takashi Noodles, + second best milkshake in the city at Marcus Samuelson's burger stand.
