My wife and I recently induldged in barbecued lamb ribs that we purchased over the Internet from Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue in Kansas City. Simply put, they were great even though they arrived frozen stiff in cryovac-sealed plastic. I also had tasty lamb ribs at Anteprima in Andersonville, but I don't think that they were barbecued.

Does any place in Chicago serve barbecued lamb ribs? They are a delicious alternative to traditional pork ribs.

How about beef ribs, a Texas sub-specialty? Some places in Memphis (notably Corky's) also serve this dish.

South side stalwarts often have beef ribs, Barbara Ann's, notably.

I've had lamb ribs in a couple of Greek restaurants. They were greasy as all get out but in a good tasty way!

    Beef Rib joints:

    L'Woods (Lincolnwood, IL)
    Bandera (Downtown)
    Honky Tonk (Pilsen)
    Merle's (Evanston)

Only place I've had lamb ribs was at Naha. They weren't BBQ'd, but they were fantastic.

Lamb breast (including the ribs IIRC) is occasionally available at GNR Manny's as well. Not BBQ, but Jewish Grandmother style.

Beef ribs are available at at The Texan in Algonquin. We used to go there for them, but have not been there in a few years because we found places closer to home. The ribs were pretty good there.

Merle's in Evanston was our "go to" place for beef ribs until they changed from a very lean nicely smoked rib with a bit of fight to a fatter rib with a softer consistency that makes it seem like the ribs have been boiled prior to smoking.

Robinson's always has beef ribs on the menu.
I think they're pretty good too (YMMV of course), but I prefer to ask for them with the sauce on the side.

A little off-topic but I am curious - how was the rest of the food? Worth a visit?

My (now-) wife and I got take-out from the Texan back when she lived in Streamwood, but she refused to go again because (she claimed) the fumes permeated her clothes.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, folks. Keep 'em coming!

I had held off on posting about it, as a fellow LTH'r at the dinner took pictures so I was hoping that he'd post first, but I went ahead and created a Fatty Cue thread.

I had some yummy lamb ribs at Marigold a few months ago - they were on special so i doubt they are part of the regular menu, but they were delicious. And got to see Broken Social Scene at the Riv after dinner. A great evening!

do NOT go to Viand for the lamb ribs, btw. Absolute worst food experience of my life. They were cold to the touch, cold on the insde and seemed like they had been prepared eons ago. No surprise we were the only diners on a FRIDAY NIGHT!

The Texan BBQ in Algonquin has decent beef ribs, but the best are L'Woods and Banderas. If you make it to the Texan, however, be sure to get the smoked bbq wings. Best wing experience of my life of any wing type.

All we have is a Weber Genesis propane grill on our deck here in the city.

Not barbecued, but the lamb breast/ ribs grilled over live coals at Galapagos are very tasty.

Used to get lamb riblets at Jewel. They were delicious grilled or broiled. About a year ago they said they changed lamb suppliers and no longer carried the riblets. I really miss them and have been unable to find them anywhere. Does anyone have a source. Will buy them in bulk if necessary.

    Hi,

I have purchased lamb riblets at Sunset Foods, which has locations in Highland Park, Lake Forest, Libertyville and Northbrook.

If you decide to go, please call in advance to make sure they are there.

I don't know where on the animal the riblets are from. You could buy a lamb breast at a number of stores to cut into riblets, too.

    Regards,
