I want to pick up some asian cookery as a gift for a friend. I am looking for a place I can pick up chopsticks, ramen bowls and spoons, and possibly a wok and some asian spices / sauces in the city. live in Lincoln Park but I can travel a little in the city (access to a car) to find them.

    Thanks for any suggestions

Almost any Asian grocery will have that sort of stuff. In the city, you might try:
    Tai Nam Grocery
    4925 N Broadway St # J
    Chicago, IL 60640-3056

Also, the north end of Chicago Food Corp (The place on Kimball just north of Belmont) has a little store packed with cookware.
Tai Nam might have a better selection of sauces / spice packets. I love Tai Nam with serious passion. I do gift baskets full of stuff like this for lots of friends. If you need suggestions on what to get, just say the word.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

Anyone know of a good Asian cookware store in the western suburbs? I'm looking for a wok. Thanks!
