Jarosch Bakery

Has anyone had any experience with Jarosch Bakery in Elk Grove? I am looking for a good bakery for Christmas cookies and Birthday cakes.

I have already been to Oak Mill Bakery and Deerfields Bakery. I think that the cakes and pastries at those bakeries did not taste as good as they looked. (Maybe I ordered the wrong items)?

I haven't been in years, because I'm not out that way frequently but when I worked in Arlington Heights I always got birthday cake and pastries from them.

I'm shocked that there isn't a thread already on them.

It was very good. They were friendly about samples so maybe you should go that route.

I've had some items from Jarosch, but I can't recall whether I've tasted their cookies or cakes. However, I have to say that I've had a few of their coffee cakes and they're really outstanding.

There have been a few passing comments in various threads about Jarosch Bakery. Most seemed quite favorable.

Your comments on Deerfield Bakery mirrors my own: high style visually and flat on the taste.

At our office, two dozen assorted Jarosch sweet rolls are the preferred 'special occasion' treat.
An important vendor is coming for a visit? Send someone out for Jarosch!
The style is a sort of individual coffee cake.
I've never had any of their other offerings but those are really good and worth checking.

It's lovely to know that Jarosch Bakery is still not only in existence, but thriving - and still in Elk Grove, as it always has been. I spent my early childhood through 6th grade in EGV, and recall the bakery with great fondness. I even went to elementary school with one of the Jarosch kids, George. I haven't been there literally in decades, but I'm thinkin' I could get there from Evanston without even consulting a map at all, as I recall the great adventure as a child of trekking on foot from Wildwood Road to the Ben Franklin (in the same strip mall as Jarosch), unaccompanied, to buy penny candy - and crossing Oakton, just before its terminus at Busse Woods. Mom was not a Helicopter Parent.

The chocolate bismark was good. The apricot sweet roll, chocolate chip sweet roll, and cherry turnover were all excellent as well. The Christmas butter cookie I tried was the best I've had (from any bakery in the Chicago suburbs). I think that this bakery is similar to Old World Bakery in Lake Zurich (but it has a bigger selection and is a notch better). The below is what came in my 1 lb box of Christmas butter cookies.

It's pretty hard to engage in a discussion with a fact-free post. It sounds like you are saying most people can't tell the difference between good and mediocre baked goods including just about everyone posting here. Yes?

Can you give us any specific experiences or a comparison/contrast with another bakery on quality of a particular item or prices? Thanks.

That was not my intention, however, merely a prediciton (evidently a prescient one).

The thread parent sought opinions on Jarosch. I gave my opinion, which is as factual as it gets for me. Your opinion is equally factual to you, even though I disagree.

Jarosch's poor excuse for an apple strudel is a sad joke. Jarosch's pricing at ~$14/lb for modestly tasty, but completely unexceptional cookies is highway robbery. That specific enough?

Legions flock to McDonald's daily, too. Does that make the Mc Fib and its companion menu items "good", or merely popular?

Since you asked about alternatives, my favorite bakery items in the area are probably the strawberry cream puffs at the Italian Bakery in Addison. Their cakes are outstanding too. Not cheap, but worth the money... unlike Jarosch.
