My mom was asking me if I knew of any place where they could go get a nice meal and stick around to celebrate the new year with drinks and dancing as well. They do not want to go to a club. I can't think of any place other than a wedding that serves decent food and allows for an after party like this, but maybe for New Year's Eve there are some places around?

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks! :)

How about a dinner cruise out of Navy Pier? Spirit of Chicago, The Odyssey and Mystic Blue Cruises operate on NYE - http://www.navypier.com/things2do/boats.html

Pretty much any downtown hotel offers this experience. Keep in mind, it's New Year's Eve, so the food might not be the best, but that is true no matter where you choose to go on NYE.

Sable has a package that looks neat and the food should be quite good - here's a link to a PDF about it

Many of the review sites have put up lists of restaurants that will also offer music/dancing (The Reader, Centerstage, Metromix, Citysearch, and others). The big hotels are a good bet as well as a few of the jazz/blues clubs that offer dinner as well as music.

    Some listed:
    Bin 36
    Carlucci
    Chicago Cut Steakhouse
    Cite
    Club Lucky
    Custom House
    Deca at the Ritz
    The Lobby at the Peninsula
    Park 52
    Restaurant Michael
    The Signature Room
    Taxim
    Uncommon Ground
    Vermilion
    Volo

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Unfortunately my mom's plans fell through, but I still appreciate knowing I can come here for great suggestions like that!

Thanks again! I hope you all had a fantastic New Year's Eve!

I am looking for a place to have dinner on new years eve. I am not particularly interested in pre fixe, but if there is a good deal I will consider. i'm pretty much open to any cuisine suggestions at the moment, but one limiting factor is price. Lets say limiting at $150 for 2 with drinks (poor grad student). I realize this is a bit vague, but perhaps after some suggestions i can narrow it down a bit.

    Hi Lobby, and welcome.

Price is good, but there are lots and lots of places in that range, even on NYE. Please, try to give us a hint of your preferences and maybe a location so we can narrow it down a bit :)

I live in ukrainian village, and prefer to stay relatively in the area, maybe fulton market being the farthest, and preferably not in the loop. Restaurants that i've enjoyed lately have been ruxbin, publican, gilt bar, and maudes. So i suppose generally new american cuisine is what i would be most interested in, but i'd be willing to consider others (leopold was quite good).

Last year we ate at Deleece in Lakeview on NYE and loved it, as I reported here. Last NYE they offered a special four-course prix-fixe menu for $60, with wine pairings available for an additional $15. Their everyday menu, which is extremely reasonable in price and well within your budget, was also available. (Ordering dinner off the regular menu, I've been paying around $50/person including moderate alcohol and tax/tip.) I've visited a couple times since (including last week) and it has been consistently outstanding.

NYE at Big Jones last year was excellent. I don't remember the price - it may be slightly above your range, but not by much. Could have been lower, though.

I haven't checked with them yet for 2011, but we enjoyed the Publican's prix fixe for the last 2 NYE. My recollection was that it was in the neighborhood of $60/each w/o beer for the earlier seating.

Unfortunately the party I am playing for is a semi private event... so I cannot suggest it.

Mrs Jazzman and I were at Elmwood Sunday. They have posters up announcing dinner and a DJ on New Years Eve.

While I DO NOT recommend a DJ for New Years.... I do recommend Elmwood for their food and as a location for your New Year's Eve Suggestions request.

Ive provided the phone number for you to call and inquire as their website is down
    as of this posting....
