Cake Bros. opened yesterday. The closest comp I could come up with was Bombon. Upscale Mexican sort of. They have a very wide assortment of stuff with a strength on cookies. Even doughnuts. Lots of fancy looking cakes. I grabbed a couple of cupcakes (good), brownie (not bad -- $1 too), and a chocolate croissant (not so good). Metropolis coffee, which should be good.

Nice people, a family operation. Strange location. I wish them luck!

You are right about the location.....I live close by but you could easily miss it. It's nice to have a local bakery. I hope they make it.

Stopped by last night and picked up 3 cupcakes. Red Velvet, Peanut Butter Cup & some kind of pecan crumble type deal. All were very, very dry. Decent crust on the rim of the cupcake tops (my favorite), but unlike Sprinkles, which in my opinion, have the best crusty rim and most deliciously dense crumb out there, these guys where just sandy and bland. The frosting was good, esp. the peanut-butter, but overall, not impressed. Friendly service, good price at 2.00, but man, if you wanna succeed in the bakery business, please make sure your product is fresh and moist. thats really it.

    word.

They do none of their own baking. Everythng is delivered from their Cicero location. I agree about the cupcakes, but the pb one that I had was very moist. The red velvet, not so much.

Stopped in tonight - they are no longre selling cupcakes. Apparently they have heard the complaints and will not sell them untill they get the bugs worked out.
The sample of chocolate cake they offerd us was good though my daughter said it was a bit dry. She didn't read the reviews here so I'm sure she wasn't influenced.
My daughter enjoyed the cheesecake we brought although she did pour strawberry jelly over it
I hate to say it but it seemed the apple danish I had was dry too - I wonder if It's because I was expecting it to be based on other reviews here but it seems to be a recurring issue.

I wouldn't mind if every other place made the same decision...

    Stopped by again tonight...

Apple turnover - good pastry, could have used more filling
Churros - again good pastry but could have used more sugar and cinnamon
Strawberry empinada - just awful, bad pastry, bad filling, dry like sand
Strawberry pinwheel (?) Like a slice of jelly roll) - cake is almost inedibly dry, one bite and in the trash

I hate to say it but I think I'm giving up on this place.
In all honesty the bakery at the Dominick's on Lake is head and shoulders above this place.
