As we all know it looks like there is a BBQ restaurant opening every other week in Chicago and this week is no exception. I just read a new BBQ restaurant has opened in the South loop called Ole Hardwood. It looks to be a little fancier than the usual BBQ restaurants with table cloths and chandeliers. If anyone has the pleasure of trying this restaurant please share your experience in this message thread.

I should have asked why would you have a wine tasting at a "BBQ" place? What would you pair with pulled pork or brisket? How about hot links or mac n cheese?

Franzia white zinfandel. Goes great with everything.

I think it's the extra sulfites that make it so versatile.

This thread has taken a silly turn even faster than typical. Wine and BBQ pair well, for example I had a BBQ class a couple of weeks ago and one of the students was a serious wine guy. He brought 6 wines to sample/pair including a Ghost Block Cabernet Sauvignon that was like a dream with Low & Slow beef ribs.

    Enjoy,

Charging $25 for a slab of ribs is insane, they better be the best ribs in the world. And if they're not, this place will go out of business.

In our recent experimentations I have found that old vine zin, cali grenache, and bolder pinot noir's make excellent pairs.

We proudly use a southern pride smoker in response.

While we have an extensive and eclectic bourbon and beer list, we also pride ourselves on our wine list. I have found that bordeaux grapes are great with the savory and rich feel of bbq. Wines with higher acid and alcohol cut through the juices of the meats very well and richer tannins break apart the fat leaving a wonderful and flavorful mouthfeel and experience.

A fire did "significant" damage this morning to a South Loop barbeque restaurant that opened in late October.

The fire broke out about 4:45 a.m. at Ole Hardwood, 1315 S. Wabash Ave., said Fire Department spokesman Quention Curtis, and was put out shortly after 5:30 a.m.
