A friend tried this place a couple of days ago and said it wasn't terrible. He was intrigued by the presence on the menu of not just Chinese, Thai and Japanese (sushi) but a few things denoted Korean as well. Anyway, I'm now intrigued as well, though not enough to take one for the team. Anyone out there braver than I?

I'm definitely not braver, but I have been threatening to try some sushi there. Haven't manned up enough yet. Website:

Korean and Thai offerings are lumped into the section of menu labeled "Asian Corner" in the Chinese menu.

We've tried it a couple of times in the last several months.

The chinese was OK, but I won't mistake it for Chinatown. Their smoothies are good.

I hadn't noticed the Korean or Thai. Might need to give that a try.

So, finally, we did it. PIcked up the phone, and gave it the ol college try. "Party Platter D" was our order:

    Spicy salmon roll
    spicy tuna roll
    Spicy shrimp roll
    Eel roll
    california roll
and 12 pieces chef's choice nigiri

So, it was all just OK. The fish was decent. I've definitely had better and worse. The nigiri was in big fat slab format. I wouldn't call it great, it was just ok. Chef's choice tonight was namasake, maguro, hamachi, and smoked salmon. The yellowtail was just a tiny scoche past it's prime, but the other stuff was OK. I'm not a big fan of smoked salmon in nigiri format for the most part, but it was OK. The rolls were decent. The spicy salmon, and spicy tuna actually packed a decent punch. My biggest issue was the flavorless rice. It was cooked well, but seasoned very poorly. Flavorless no tang, none. It would have brought everything up a decent notch. It was just plain ol white rice.

The folks at Sen in Oak Park won't be losing any sleep because of J-Wok's sushi. Maybe tonight's rice wasn't seasoned in the usual manner. I'll give them another try - maybe a lunch special or something.
