As is stand right now, either date works for me. Hopefully I won't have any sort of family crisis in January; I've had enough of those for the time being. I will post my entry at a later date.

huh? CM, you're still listed in the original post. scroll back up. and ymas, it looks like you'd be the 12th, but i'll let chouxfly confirm, as he is the host. joan

i emailed chouxfly, asking him to respond, since he is hosting. i'm guessing he might be out of town, or simply not checking lthforum very often, as ymas is still wondering if their in. i'll step up and tentatively confirm ms. ingie as the 12th (and last) one in the group, since she did respond sooner than ymas, with ymas as the top of the waiting list. someone often cancels, though not always in time for someone to bake. hopefully, chouxfly will confirm this. justjoan

Thanks for poking me out of inaction, justjoan... I've updated the top post (and removed the date discussion, since we decided to stick with the 16th.)

You are correct that Ms. Ingie responded first got the last RSVP spot and the waiting list currently consists of Ymas.

I see there's already one person on the waiting list...but maybe I can be waiter #2 ?
Just in case a couple people get busy and need to cancel, I'll be in line to step up.
    Cheers everyone :D

P.S. I just pulled from my oven an experimental carrot/coconut/banana cake, with some blueberries, pecans and orange zest for flare. Mixing up some cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar to frost it. I have not grasped the "less-is-more" concept, but then that may be why I am up ten pounds this holiday season. Hope you all are cozy and sweet.

I am starting to think about the vegetarian dinner beforehand. Last time it looked like the host made the entree while a guest made the salad? Is that the usual partition of labor?

usually the host provides a light 'repast'. ava kindly offered to make a salad last time, since our numbers had jumped up when the NW students were added in. the food choices have been varied. as you recall, i made a fairly rich phyllo casserole. other hosts have offered more hors d'oevry options. dips, cheese platters, just salads, all are options. it's whatever you want. since we have plenty of desserts, dinner can be light. if you want someone to bring an additional dish, just speak out and i'm sure someone will volunteer. i hope this helps.... joan

thanks for PM'ing the directions to your place.

There had better be at least a dozen maraschino cherries on top! :P

    Hi,

In the spirit of reverse engineering, I am bringing my rendition of cake I bought often in Moscow called 'Ideal.' It is many layers of a thin walnut laden wafers with chocolate cream in between, on the sides and top. Finely chopped walnuts decorate the sides.

    Regards,

pie lady: i've always said how clever you are: this proves it. but i'm no prima donna (i hope). i can remove the cherry on my slice with clean hands and offer it to the highest bidder.

pairs4life: if your comment is aimed at me, i did read the thread and saw the pistachio cake with a single cherry on top. is that what you mean??? joan

Sorry you won't be able to make it. I've moved ymas up the list and will send her a PM.

While I'm posting, Mamagotcha has offered to make vegetarian chili for the dinner, and I am planning on making rosemary garlic focaccia.

thanks chouxfly, will you PM mmmmdonuts? nancie is trying to sign up to become an lthforum member, but she can't remember her username, so in the meantime i'll let her know, and i'm sure she'll be thrilled. it's unfortunate that people who wanted to come can't, but at least they cancelled early enough so others have time to plan a dessert. joan

(edited to add that nancie joined lth back in june, but couldnt remember her username or password. i just figured out how to locate her username, which is IZZY. now she'll have to get her password sent to her. )
