Not to derail the thread but I have to ask why.

I really need to get back here. I didn't have a great first experience but trying it at the end of a 6-stop crawl was no way to give it a fair assessment.

I couldn't find a mention of this elsewhere, but Huaraches Dona Chio has opened a new outpost in Albany Park. I've never visited the original location, but I can say I just enjoyed the best huarache (Tinga + Huitlacoche) I've ever had!!

After catching a play at the nearby Raven Theater, we had our inaugural visit at the original location for dinner this evening. There was a brief wait outside before a table freed up.

Dining beneath the gloriously framed LTH GNR three of us made a delightful meal out of one huaraches chorizo con papas and one tinga along with a steak burrito for my wife who's not too tolerant of spicy food.

We left the restaurant very full and very happy, even my finicky wife.

I finally went over to the Lawrence Ave. Huaraches Dona Chio. [Thought it hadn't been posted on and I could be the first to mention the new location. Silly rabbit.] Had an amazing lunch of a huarache con chorizo y papas. Spicy, meaty, savory. Delicious. Still good 20 minutes later when I brought it back to work to eat it.

I sat at a little bar-type spot while I waited for my order to be made, and got the watch the masa mistress shape the huaraches and other goodies. I think it must be no small trick to put a big smear of beans in the middle of the huarache dough and be able to make it thin enough AND stick together on the griddle. I asked if they were the same as the place in Rogers Park; the man's eyes lit up as he said "Oh, that's my sister's place".

Also got a cactus quesedilla. Fairly meh, but I ascribe that to the blandness of the ingredients, not any fault of the quesedilla.

Had a glorious huarache with chorizo/papas and huitlacoche at Fonda Dona Chio, the newish Clark St. outpost of the Dona Chio empire. I hadn't eaten at Dona Chio in a while and I'm really glad I happened to be in the neighborhood today at lunchtime.
