I love sandwiches, in all shapes, sizes, and varieties. Please tell me where you find your favorite sandwiches in the city. What establishments have the tastiest, most innovative, thought-provoking, all-around sensually uplifiting sandwiches?

Interesting idea for a thread, but as opposed to LTHers simply giving you info how about you start off telling us about some of your favorite sandwiches, where they can be found and why you love them.

    Enjoy,

    HI,

    What is your list?

There are two major threads on this topic you may want to read through:

    Best Chicago Sandwich
What's the best sandwich in Chicago?

More can be found by searching for sandwich, then confine it to topic titles. A second search using sandwiches in top titles will also mine many riches.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

My personal favorite, at the moment, is from Pastoral and is the Cali Chevre. It's a nice amount of goat cheese, avocado, house made almond butter, thinly sliced cold and crisp celery and red onion. The celery is what makes it for me and I do not really enjoy celery as it usually comes off as boring. But something about the crispness of it and the smooth avocado/goat cheese go so well. Don't doubt this sandwich, I know you are probably thinking it sounds lame but I have an addiction to this and want it daily. So good, go get one for yourself.

If we're strictly talking only within the city itself, you have to have a Chicago original - an Italian Beef sandwich at Al's #1 Italian Beef is about as good as it gets (unless you're in Elmwood Park  ). This is the original and by fay the best location. Some of the franchises are decent, while some are downright depressing as far as the food goes. Don't forget their great fresh cut fries. You really must have your sandwich dipped to get the full flavor.

Recently I fell in love with the roasted pork loin sandwich served for lunch at Kiki's Bistro .
It's designed for somebody with a solid appetite, and is comprised of 2 or 3 very tasty lukewarm slices of slightly smoked pork, lettuce, tomato, avocado moisten with a spicy mayo, and half-melted gruyere cheese under two slices of lightly toasted rustic white Italian bread. At $ 11.50 , this very satisfying sandwich constitutes a real meal since it is served with delicious freshly fried shoestring potatoes or a salad.

I'm not a sandwich lover but the Special Vegetarian at the Brown Sack is fantastic. Grilled Sweet Plantain, black beans, onions, add avocado, cheese, & seebee's giardinera + their spicy coleslaw w/ apples on the sandwich. It's a why didn't I think of that. Plus in the dead of winter, it speaks to warmer island climes with just one bite. Consistently one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.

Santander- I think I'm going to try my hand at truffled egg salad later this week. I did truffled deviled eggs for New Year's Day.

I have always been a fan of the Veggie Dagwood at M. Henry. A sandwich so stacked with hearty stuff, you don't even for one minute regret not ordering something with meat.

If you are far out west in Crystal Lake, the Smokehouse Turkey and Bacon at Duke's Alehouse and Kitchen is my current favorite.

Thanks for the inspiration. A couple of days ago, I split the Le Canard (in its current incarnation) and a newer creation, the Blue Pig and Fig, which included proscuitto, blue cheese, fig jam, and brown mustard. I thought Le Canard lacked a little balance/acidity (which probably used to be there when it still had balsamic vinegar marinated cipollini onions) but overall was really good, and the Blue Pig and Fig was outstanding.
