Saw this the other day in Walgreens and had no idea what it was. Walgreens has its own private label beer now. Haven't tried it and dont know if I will. 2.99 for a six pack of cans. Maybe Ill keep some around for my friends who hate beer (drink Bud light).

There is some more information on it here http://tinyurl.com/4k6ku2u

My husband, who likes to try new beer, spotted it a few weeks ago bought a six-pack. He said it was just like any other cheap, fizzy, yellow beer in a can. Nothing great, nothing terrible.

Apparently this is contracted brewed for Walgreens by Genessee Brewing out of Rochester, NY. Higher rated than Bud Light and Miller Lite on Beer Advocate (although with many fewer reviews), but I suppose that is damning with faint praise.

Actually it's produced by Novato in California.

My brother, who manages the beer/wine department for a Whole Foods location in Arlington, VA tells me they will be going "draft". You will be able to order up a growler after you get your dinner from the hot food deli soon. He is also a member of the "beer media" and tells me this is the next "new thing" in beer retailing.

Novato may control the brand (looks like it brand manages a lot of private labels and perhaps arranges for the brewing), but the cans themselves indicate that it is brewed by Genessee (actually listed as Brewmaster's Choice, but same thing).

There are multiple Whole Foods in Chicago that already sell draft beer, though at this time I believe it's only for on-premises consumption and not yet sold in growlers.

Right. I should have clarified it was for take-home, or wherever. WF is designing the packaging, bottles, etc. to fit with their eco-mission.

I tried this at a cheap friend's house last night during the Super Bowl. It's gross.

That is exactly how I would describe it. Not quite Old Style, PRB, or Schiltz in terms of flavor, but better than Hamm's, Blatz, and Busch. Yeah, I know that's very narrow niche I'm describing there. But trust me. I'm right.

I've got 5 cans to give away.....

I must state that I have a commercial interest in this beer as my wife works for Walgreens

The cheap beer connoisseur husband agrees with you, FWIW. We have a Walgreens right by the house and he continues to pick it up on occasion. He likes to pour it into our fancy beer glasses for friends to see if they notice what they are drinking. :P

Do they serve Big Flats 1901 beer? And, if so, how would you describe the integration of a Walgreens house beer into the culinary journey offered?

Living in a very budget conscious household, my husband gets Big Flats when he doesn't have a lot to spare on beer (usually when the good stuff isn't on sale). I do agree it's better than Busch and Bud but that isn't saying much. It's no where near the level of PBR. Big Flats is decent. What's actually worse beer is the generic crap he bought at Jewel one night. It was a light beer that comes in a royal blue can called Rock something or other. I think it was Rock Ice. It was two twelve packs for ten bucks and it was totally devoid of anything that actually tastes like a beer.
