I second this chili - very good hearty texture.

Lentil soup at Taza is terrific.

Also, IMHO, the best falafil in the loop (by a long shot), good chicken and regular shawarma too.

OMG Panther in the Den. I am in your service!
I have had trouble posting pictures here in the past.
I am going to give it the good old college try again.
Did the chicken soup at La Cocina on South Clark recently.
    Here is the soup.

Yes it is a chicken leg on the spoon. It is good soup on a cold day. Call ahead to avoid the 15-20 minutes it takes them to prepare. (edited to figure out how to post pictures... finally figured it out!) (used BBCode) (ok i got the pictures to show, dont know exactly how and it looks like messy code in the background. One of these days)

If you are at La Cocina, try one of their al pastor tacos. $2 and pretty darn good, I think. I need to try that interesting looking soup. Looks a little tough to eat though?

I didn't see Oasis mentioned, but they have a really good Spinach and a good vegetable. If you like rice in your soup (I don't) then you will like the Herrara. I've only had soup as a side, they've increased the price to $1.49 w an entree. They also sell a bowl for $2.49. Mac Kelly's always has five or six selections and quite a large to go cup, I like the split pea there. My Thai, has decent fresh soups and udons that qualify as a meal.

The Tom Yum from Siam Rice (Wells/Washington) is one of my favorites for those days I feel a cold coming on. They do a small portion or more of an entre-style Tom Yum Noodle.

Also, the Split Pea from Marquette Inn is surprisingly good.

If you're in the West Loop area, Carmichael's has a great tortilla soup. I don't think it's on a set schedule though. Also, Butterfly Thai and Sushi has a really good Tom Yum soup. Very flavorful with a lot of veggies.

When the weather turns cold I have often wished for a place serving good Pho or Korean stew near my office downtown. There used to be a place on Wabash that served Pho, but that was years ago. I think I have found a place that fits the bill just in time for winter.

I have been now three times to a Korean/ Vietnamese place called Green Apple Grill & More (or on some signage simply "Pho"). It is in a food court at 201 N. Clark with a McDonalds, Popeyes, Robinson's Ribs, etc. Green Apple is up on the second floor.

I can't say that I am an expert enough on Pho to give an experienced evaluation, but I can say that they are serving real broth with the usual bean sprouts, cilantro, etc. and that it hits the spot. The rich broth is not at all salty which I really appreciate. In fact, they have posted a sign alerting you that you may need to add salt and provide a finger bowl with salt with the soup.

Two of the three times I have been there I have had the Gom Tang (Korean Beef Bone soup) and enjoyed the deep beefy flavor. This comes with home made radish Kimchee. They also have Kimchee stew (jiggae) on the menu, and that is next on my list. They do not offer Soondobu.

I plan to be back here numerous times this winter. You can reach the food court on a north branch of the Pedway if you circle back east through the State of Illinois Building.
