    ValenKhan's Day? Botitine's Day?
Edit: Venue switched to Elephant Thai

I was set up with a hot date on Valentine's day by a police officer. My date is at 5600 Old Orchard Rd in Skokie, and Khan's happens to be close enough on my way that I'm thinkin lunch there would be just swell. My date is at 1:30, so I'm hoping Khan is open early enough to start eating by 11:30 ish, so I can safely get outta there before 12:45 ish.

    So, Khan's - Monday, Feb 14th. Early-ish lunch around 11:15 if anyone's interested.

    Topics of discussion may include:
    1. What should I bring my wife for Valentine's day / Birthday dinner from Devon on my way back from Skokie?
    2. What other Indo / Pak places kick out some stellar grub around town, and or in the burbs?
    2. If your auto insurance card is expired by a few days, yet anyone with moderate intelligence can verify that you are insured, and have been insured under the same policy, same company, for the last 8 years, why would the state need to waste more time making you appear in court when they clearly should have better things to do?

I don't think Khan opens until at least noon; it might even be 12:30.

    Either way, I'm in.

Ronnie_s is right. Khan opens at high noon.
I'd prefer to change venues, to allow for a more leisurely feast, but I can prolly swing it. Khan, high noon unless someone knows of another decent Pakistani place open earlier. I will have to be very prompt in arriving and also in leaving.

I'm not sure if they open any earlier, but Kabul House is certainly closer to your appointed appointment (so to speak). Although Afghani rather than Pakistani, the taste profiles are similar. I'm up for either one.

According to Kabul House website, closed on Mondays. :(
I should have researched Khan's open time before starting this one off. I just assumed  11am was standard open time for most joints serving lunch. I'm gonna check for GNR's up that way as a possible substitute.

I've yet to do Elephant Thai, and I think you are both fans? They are open at 11a (standard time, see???) and right off of 94.

    Seebee
    Stevez
    Ronnie_Suburban
    G Wiv
    jygach
    mbh
    tarte tatin
    Giovanna

    Maybe:
    boudreaulicious

Which puts us as 8, possibly 9. Instead of just showing up, we'll need to put in a call to the joint ahead of time, not only for a reservation, but possibly to pre-order so as not to throw the kicthen off of their game. Perhaps the owners might prepare something special for us? I'm wondering if anyone would be against pre-ordering some basics to avoid stress on the kitchen. I'm thinking of things along the lines of:
    Chive Dumplings for 9
    Thai fried chicken for 9
    Papaya salad for 9
Perhaps a coconut milk curry for nine.
Then, we can order extras of whatever floats our boats that day, and pass those around too. This is just a suggestion, I'm not trying to play alpha male and make everyone eat this and go along with it. This is just a simple suggestion, please feel free to not agree, or point out any flaws, or suggest another dish that is generally commonly enjoyed. I'm thinking back to my days working in various kitchens. If a nine top walked in 30 minutes after lunch service started, I'd love it if they already told me what they wanted so I could get prepped ahead of time. We have a good two weeks until the date to get anything figured out, no big deal, just wanted to get the ball rolling for ideas.

I'll call Ann and set something up for us. Unfortunately, there is no Thai Fried Chicken offered at Elephant. I'll see if I can persuade Ann to make some of her special Thai grilled chicken or pork chops, but this always depends on the weather because she cooks those outside at home over charcoal. She also makes some very interesting stews duringing the winter as special dishes once in a while. I'll call her on Monday and see what she says.

I recently had a green curry with Thai eggplant and fish balls that was served over vermicelli-type noodles. I don't think it's on the menu. We placed a carry-out order and Ann put a small serving of it (curry and noodles packed separately, of course) in our bag with the rest of our order...wonderful stuff. If it sounds good, maybe we could request it. Or not. Just a thought.

I wouldn't order anything for "nine"--i think ordering power is all about not overdoing any one item--I know I wouldn't want a full portion of anything--wouldn't leave enough room for tasting everything else :D

I agree with this. I think 2-3 servings of any one item would be enough for everyone to try that particular item while still leaving enough room to order and try a bunch of other items, too. That said, I've probably had everything on the menu at Elephant at least twice, so I'll go with the flow, no matter what the plan.

If I'm understanding you correctly, that's what I meant, but prolly didn't word it correctly.
2 or 3 regular plates of papaya salad would be enough for 9 to have a taste. If we were to order this way, I would make sure that there would not be 9 ORDERS of each item, but enough for 9 to have a taste. Thanks for clarification.

No problem. I've set up numerous meals at Elephant through the years. I promise not to order 9 orders of anyting  . I'll be going there next week to talk to Ann and put something together. I'll book space for 10, in case anyone else decides to join us.
