There is no love for LTH in that interview. Mischaracterization, yes. Love, no.

Well, you always mischaracterize the one you love, Kennyg.

An interesting excerpt from the interview:

Penny Pollack wrote:LTH – since I’m always looking for information – in a way is more useful. LTH’ers spot that a new awning went up or that a place looks closed. They’re not so much about opinions on eating as they are about news –openings and closings—and they post it.

This saddens me. Do we not chronicle our meals here? I mean "Openings & Closings" is but one thread...and a dumping ground at at that. What about all of the rest of the content on this site?

We're not so much about opinions, just strongly held versions of the truth.

No disrespect to Penny Pollack intended, but at this point, doesn't LTH have more influence than Chicago Magazine? It's my perception that it does. And if so, we really shouldn't be saddened, upset, or bothered in any way if she doesn't "get" us. Conversely, we shouldn't be thrilled in the event she were throwing us some love.

I can't imagine why you would ever think so.

She's clearly never browsed any of the BBQ threads.

I do not consider myself a "foodie" in the same class as most of you wonderful people here. However, because of the many fine posts here, I am leaps and bounds ahead of where I was before I found this wonderful site. I have learned many new recipes, and also been inspired to try many new foods as a result of reading the posts here. Some of what I consider to be among my favorite restaurants I have learned about, here at this site. But more than just restaurants, I have learned to open my mind about food, and this site has given me confidence in my cooking that has enabled me to expand well beyond the usual weeknight dinners. I thank you and my family thanks you.

I felt compelled to post this so all of you know, that to so many people, this site is much more than opening and closings. I appreciate all the wonderful post here. Now if I could just get the courage to join one of your outings. LOL

No courage required!! I attended my first LTH event almost exactly a year ago and it's the best part of participating. Hope to see you at something soon.
