Review of EJ's Kosher Pizzeria in Skokie

EJ's Kosher Pizzeria opened 2/13 - stopped and I am happy there is a good kosher pizza place in the chicago land area - had a slice of vegetable pizza on whole wheat and a bowl of French Onion Soup - the pizza is some of the best kosher pizza in Chicago - I will have to go back to make sure they do not fall into the Chicago kosher pizza curse of inconsistency - but first time out of the box excellent rivaling non-kosher pizza.

The french onion soup - I was expecting baked with a nice crust of cheese - but to my disappointment I was presented with a bowl of soup and a side of croutons and cheese - but once I put it all together it too was excellent - will definitely be going back even though they some opening day issues slow service and not all of the menu items were available like the calzone -

brought some home for the family and the overall consensus - was very good!

The only other kosher pizza I've had was from Tel Aviv on California ave. But it has been a really long time. Is this the place you had in mind when you mentioned inconsistency?

Isn't there another Kosher pizza place on Oakton in the same parking lot as Hungarian Kosher Market? I've never been, but it seems like that part of Skokie is a hotbed of Kosher pizza action.

Now I know that if I Google the phrase "Hotbed of Kosher pizza action" it'll get exactly one hit (maybe 2 if you count my response). As far as Kosher pizza in Chicago goes, never have so many familiar and straightforward ingredients been assembled into a disappointing end product as is the case with Chicago's Kosher pizza history. Even 100 monkeys in a kitchen would probably get it right more than half the time.* Haven't tried the new place but it has very small shoes to fill.

*And whoever coined the phrase "pizza is like sex, even when it's bad it's good" never ate Kosher pizza here.

Oh, and as for the place next to Hungarian, I believe it closed a while back.

No not tel aviv pizza - I recall that being decent but I have to say it has been a while for me as well

The ones I were referring to are d'nalis on oakton by Hungarians which is now closed, main street pizza and slice of life all of which I have had at times decent pizza from but rarely twice in a row

Totally agree. I was at a friend's house for a small party a few years ago and they had ordered from Main Street for the kids and I was very pleasantly surprised by it. However, I had their pizza a few times after that and it was very, very disappointing so I gave up on chasing that dragon and haven't bothered with them in some time.
