I think it's likely that Hideout will be able to accomodate all of us heating soup at once, but we'll see.

Martha just emailed to remind me that they have loads of bowls but not any plates, so if you're bringing something that requires a plate (like, for instance, dessert), we will need to bring plates.

No worries. Just realized I have a few hundred small dessert plates from the picnic last summer. I will bring those and I'm guessing that will be all we need.

My soup is already made, but if you haven't started yours yet, and you're at all interested in doing a veggie soup, that would probably be a good thing. Martha is concerned that we're a little heavy on the meat offerings.

I was unable to make my Scandinavian Lamb Stew yesterday and today will be no better. A relative is quite ill and family is flying in from around the country. Since we seem long on soup, and short on space and extension cords, I thought I'd bring an assortment of breads from Taza Bakery.

I will bring a platter for the bread and smallish fast food style cardboard boats, leftover from the LTH picnic, to serve.

I checked with both David and Martha before posting.

I'm glad to hear that too, as I have one of our scant veggie offerings, but with the ingredients I could procure, I was was only able to eke out a little over a gallon. Probably 40-50 small servings.

I would've been happy to convert my soup to a veg version but I didn't have anything close to enough vegetable broth to substitute for the chicken stock. Once I couldn't go veg, didn't seem worth it to leave out the bacon.

Sharon--if possible, could you add red pepper flakes to my ingredient list? I think I left them off the list earlier and the soup very definitely has a bit of a kick so wouldn't want to mislead anyone.

Not sure if anyone mentioned, but it's probably a good idea to bring a ladle or some other kitchen tool to serve your soup with.

I didn't mention this in my ingredient list... I will be serving my soup with toasted almonds and a piece of bread, but either or both can be left off for anyone with nut or gluten issues. I have a serving spoon.

We plan to arrive at the Hideout around 4:45 or so to start setting up.

Thinking of last minute concerns, if you have a crockpot, you should probably bring it (I think most everyone is bringing one, but I know there are one or two people who will need to use the Hideout's). And, as mentioned, bring your soup warm if possible (it will never get to temp in reasonable time without a headstart).

Chances are 50/50 that I'll hear/feel my phone ring, but if you need to call, my number is 708-902-3969.

Wonderful evening, wonderful soups, wonderful LTHer's! As always LTH rocked the room with amazing soups, breads, salads and desserts. I want recipes, I loved everything I tasted. It was great turnout and young Ms. KennyZ stole the show, watching her "dance" with her father was memorable. Nice evening people.

I am so sorry for missing out on the fun and service to the people, especially proclaiming to be "condiment" something or other. Really, apologies all around. No excuses, but was waylaid by work at the last minute.

From insiders' intel, it was a great time all around.

Again, much apologies for missing out on my obligations.

Sometimes I don't know which dish of an evening's dinner was among the most impressive until the next morning (kind of like when I go to a movie, and I can't really say what I thought of it until a day later). One soup I keep thinking about is Jenn's tomato soup. The bacon added a lot, of course, but there was also background heat that helped elevate this normally kind of uneventful bowl into something special. With C2's crackers dropped on top, this soup became memorable. Kind of shows that with the right treatment, even the most regularly mundane food items can become wonderful. Unfortunately, I believe every bowl of tomato soup I have henceforth, no matter how good, will seem vapid by comparison. The excellent is the enemy of the good.
