wednesday - lunch at schmidt's sausage house
i had the buffet sampling four different types of sausage, italian, bahama mama, and two types of brats. german sides - german potato salad, red cabbage. for dessert i had the cream puff that was outstanding.
wednesday stopped at the original kfc in corbin, ky. same old kfc stuff but the kfc museum was worth the stop.
spent the night in lenoir city, tn.
thursday morning - stopped for breakfast in chandler, nc - looking for a biscuit chain to stop at we picked bojangles. had the ham egg and cheese biscuit - it was good.
on the the to bojangles we seen an old sign that said - hamburger, fried chicken, bbq - so we stopped at "cruizers - 1320 smoky park hwy, chandler, nc - wwww.mycruizers.com.
went with b and g eggs and two sausage patties - it was that special - it was tops. i would stop again and try the hamburger or fried chicken.
next stop hemingway, sc for scott's bbq.
this is the real deal bbq - whole hog and chicken. chicken was good but a little dry. pork was very good moist with a vinegar and pepper sauce mixed in served with white bread. no table at this place - we ate off the tailgate of my truck. we met the owner ronnie scott and he gave us a quick tour of the place. burning barrell was huge. there was alot of firewood being chopped. inside the smokehouse there pit was covered with butcher paper. definitely worth making the trip.

on to summerville, sc - meeting up with whole hog champ of sc - jack waibor and family. at gilligan's seafood started with a couple dozen oysters - ordering low country boil (crab legs, shrimp, potatoes, sausage) and on the side fried okra. fried okra and the oysters were the standout.
friday am - breakfast in downtown summerville - at the sweetwater grill and cafe. having shrimp and grits and a side of sausage gravy. both of these items were highlights. the grits were the best i have had.
11am starting at carolina pitmasters cooking school. cooking chicken, ribs, pork butts, brisket, and one whole hog. this is a hands on class the students are trimming meats and preparing for competition box turn - in.. also, was interviewed by the local newspaper and bbq superstars. class ended around 2pm saturday - so buzz and i headed north out of town to hollyhill, sc.
sweatman's bbq - whole hog (separated white and dark meat) ribs - this was buffet style, the sides were coleslaw, hash, and rice. water or tea were the drinks. banana pudding is not in the buffet but for $0.71 per serving it was so good i had to get two to go. sweatman's is one of my favorite bbq places in the country.
