    Hi:

My friend is planning for her husband's 50th birthday party in July. She's interested in doing a pig roast in her backyard and is looking to possibly hire someone to do it as she herself has never roasted a whole pig. Does anybody know of someone that does this? I told her I'd ask. Thanks a bunch.

    Hi BJT,

You can buy individual piece of Berkshire, a whole hog or even have Mike to cook the whole pig for you.

    HI,

I would send a pm to philw on this board. He has the equipment and expertise.

He helped me with Culinary Historian's pig roast last summer. He is steeped in BBQ culture and a very nice guy.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

    Hello philw:

I've heard very good things about you! It's going to be in July but not the 4th of July weekend. Most likely the following weekend. Let me ask my friends Sarah and I'll get back with you.

Check out the Filipino newspapers at your nearest Unimart market. They have ads for lechon catering.

Let me add to the good things about Phil W. I've cooked whole pig with Phil a number of times and he is a real pro. Not just a professional, but the pigs he cooks turn out tasty. Consider my post strong recommendation for Phil.

I have a very close friend who cooks pig, lamb, etc. He has the capacity to cook for small groups or large. He's out of Highland, Indiana. PM me and I'll be happy to pass his number along.

    Hi folks,
I'm looking for someone to provide a pig roast for my wedding. Any recommendations on caterers who can do a pig roast for me? I would like to find someone who can serve a locally-raised hog, at least without hormones or antibiotics if not organic.

    Much obliged.

Mercat a la Planxa does a whole roast suckling pig (which is fantastic), and they also do catering (which I have no experience with)...

If your friend is still interested in doing one herself, these guys break it down real easy (I've used this method with both a marinade and a dry rub)...

you can get a pig from peoria packing (they'll even butterfly it for you), and you can get everything else from any home center.

I'm certain that your friends found her man (pig-man).............
but- for all the others out there-
Mr. We Cater Lechon, will do it all Puerto Rican style for you-
    LECHON-

Leaving the bank parking lot recently- I stopped,
and walked up on his salsa-blaring-gloss-black-Van,
w/a roasting pig emblazoned on the side in white graphics....to ask for a business card-
so I cannot vouch/personally testify as to his "lechon-ey-ness".
