Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Pita Island in that super busy strip mall on Milwaukee Ave. and Deerfield Ave. recently opened. They have a $5.95 lunch special plate that includes a bunch of beef, rice pilaf, salad, falafel, and pitas.

Not all the links work yet, it seems.

    Hi,

This is the place next to Wonton Express in Deerfield, right?

I was wondering when they'd get their act together.

    Regards,

New Burger place opening in Elmwood Park, just west of Johnnie's Beef. They advertise fresh cut fries and hand packed shakes.

Given the foot traffic this far north on Clark, that seemed a bit high but most of the rest seems within reason or good value and given the reputation, it seems like the quality will more than justify the prices. It's just that it's at the end of the strip of restaurants on Clark and even further north than M Henry. For some people, Andersonville ends at Bryn Mawr. But Coffee Chicago and Piatto Pronto have helped boost that stretch's viability. And Leonardo's has survived up there for quite awhile. So, it should do fine. I hope it succeeds since it looks like great quality seafood and steaks.

I did notice that Andersonville on the Website. I never considered that far north on Clark Andersonville, not ever sure what that area was called.

When I lived in A-ville in the late 90s, the consensus was from Foster to Bryn Mawr. But as gentrification has spread outward and a cohesive business district has expanded accordingly, the generally accepted borders are now somewhere just north of Lawrence to just south of Peterson.

It was no great surprise given our last experience there but we noticed yesterday that Adesso in Lakeview has closed.

Antico opened its doors yesterday and was already bustling with neighborly conversation, on-site roasted coffee, and exceedingly delicious truffled eggs over ethereal polenta (or on baguette or croissant, as you like it). With the cred from A Tavola, dinner (beginning Wednesday) seems quite promising!

Sometime last month, an outpost of the Jet's Pizza chain opened up on the west side of Darien between Fairview Avenue and Lemont Road.

    Jet's Pizza
    2425 West 75th St.
    Darien, IL 60561

I'm not expecting much, but hopefully they got a good deal on rent as that strip mall has a lot of vacancies. Still, given that the other food in the mall is Panda Express, Jimmy John's, and Caribou Coffee, it might qualify as the best food outlet in the mall!

The interior of Pho Xua was being dismantled last night, so they are either doing an extensive and unnecessary remodeling or they have closed.

I would truly be sad if they are in fact closed.

Crossing my fingers in hopes that they are just remodeling.

I think this belongs in this thread.

When the economy collapsed, Mitchell's on Clybourn stopped being open for the dinner hour. Like a lot of formerly all-day Greek diner/coffeeshops around town, they started closing around 3 every day. My better half tells me that they are now going to be open through dinner again. Perhaps a harbinger of signs of life in the economy.

Opening soon on Bell north of Devon, Carnivore, a restaurant serving organic and halal falafel, hummus, and such. Nothing too unusual, but the organic thing is unusual around here, plus the name gave me pause.

Avocado Bakery and Cafe has opened at 1913 N Milwaukee, a stretch that could use some bright business.
Vegan themed, the menu also features a few meat selections (today, Basil Chicken and Island Tuna), and features baked goods from Golden Rise.

It looks like Cafe Havana in Itasca is no longer open for business / closed for good. We tried to go there for lunch today and there were some pretty bright stickers and a long, typed letter attached to the door.

It's weird because I searched all of lth and did a web search and read nothing of it being closed.

Please feel free to pass along any info if you know any.

The Lake Zurich Gino's East has closed. It's now a place called Aspen Grill. Looks like they have one not-so-great review on Yelp so far.

The S&G diner/coffeeshop at Lincoln and Wellington is now open later again, too. So, a welcome trend.

Two newish places I have seen on my way to and from my son's piano lesson (but have not visited):

Hotdogeria (in the former Derek's Dogs space)
    711 W. Armitage
    Chicago, IL 60614

Advertises hot dogs of the world, including offerings for Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.

Brother's Beef (in the former Doggie Diner space)
    723 W. Armitage
    Chicago, IL 60614
    [Website]

Appears to be a somewhat standard beef, sausage, dog, and burger place, although also offers panini, soups, salads and ice cream.

These are both across the street from the Lincoln Park High School, so they may have a built-in steady stream of business irrespective of how the food is.
