On my travels down to North Carolina, I noticed a flier for Schimpff’s Confecionery in Jeffersonville, Indiana (just across the river from Louisville) and a few miles from I-65 (Exit 0). Left (east) for a few blocks then turn on Spring Street (depending which street you take it will be left or right) to 347 Spring Street.
Schimpff’s has been in business since 1891, and has excellent traditional candies – horehound drops, toffee, Majeskas (caramel coated marshmallow, a local speciality), red hots, coated pretzels. There is also a candy museum, which Jill and Warren Schimpff – very nice people - gave me a tour of (and which convinced me – finally – that I must get a digital camera!).
I recommend it highly. Oddly it is not listed in the Sterns’ Roadfood book, but after 114 years, they should have heard of it.
