Hello all, first time poster, long time lurker. Just wondering if anyone else was able to get to Glimpse, the pop-up from the folks at Gaztro-Wagon, Fritz Pastry, hum spirits, and hosted at Logan Square Kitchen?

I myself enjoyed the experience. I'd like to see more pop-ups come through Chicago.

    And now, some eye-candy.
    Image
when we arrived, the doors were still locked. Our reservation was at 6, and it was already 6:10. Originally, Glimpse was only planned for a 4 day venture, but added a fifth day, Tuesday April 5th, because of demand. Not sure if this was a soft open or not, but we were the only people waiting.

Our waitress was only prepped 2 minutes prior, so things got off a little slow. Of the menu offered, this is what we had chosen.
    Image

First fish course - Whitefish / Grapefruit / Yucca / Vanilla / Fennel
    Image
Whitefish was well cooked, and the grapefruit added a really refreshing aftertaste.

Second fish course - Striped Bass / Lardo / Salsify / Grapes / English Pea
    Image
I received the portion with less lardo. Big mistake. The striped bass was nice and smoky, but I wish I had more lardo to finish it off.

Veggie course - Spinach Ricotta Ravioli / Lemon / Sage / Hazelnuts
    Image
Ravioli was really good. Didn't get a lot of the lemon taste, but I don't care; it was great nonetheless

First meat course - Pheasant / Brioche / Mushroom / Celery Root
    Image
Probably my least favorite course of the night. I still enjoyed it enough, I was just surprised by the texture of the pheasant.

Second meat course - Venison / Coffee / Ancho / Plantain / Sweet Potato / Walnuts
    Image
Thoroughly enjoyed this. Plantains were a little too hard for me, but the meat was right on.

Trio of cheese course - Sesame Chili Cracker / Truffle Honey / Candied Pecan / Quince
    Image
Cheese. 'Nuff said. Everything paired really well, and the cheese was delicious. Cheese.

Dessert course - Chocolate Mousse / Crisped Rice / Peanut Butter / Caramel / Marshmallow Creme
    Image
Normally, I'm not a big sweets fan. The chocolate was really rich, and I thought it was going to be overwhelming, but the crisped rice actually helped settle the taste. I enjoyed it.

We both ordered 3 cocktails. First cocktail was paired with our fish courses. It contained Hum (a spirit made here), jasmine tea, golen raisin gastrique, prosecco, and a grapefruit zest.
    Image
    Twas delicious

Second cocktail contained hum, red wine, sage, and a kitchen spiced rim.

Had a kick to it. Maybe too much for my taste. Still enjoyable.

That about covers it as far as my experience goes. Anyone else?

nice first post and great pics!

How did this work--could you pick as many offerings as you wanted? Was it a set amount/set price or based on number of items selected? How did you pass up the favas :D ?

    Welcome!

    Thanks for the welcome!

    Now to your questions!

At the top of the menu it says, 'A Social Collective Experience'. It was exclusively a twitter event - You followed @Glimpse_Chi, and they would follow you back. Once that happened, you could DM and request a reservation between 04/06-04/09. Due to high demand (featured on HuffPost Chicago, Chicago Popsugar and Chicago Eater), they ran out of space quickly. I was initially placed on the waitlist. I assumed all hope was lost, but Glimpse then added a fifth day, Tuesday 04/05 to the mix. I got the DM, and made a reservation as quickly as possible.

Each course was 10 dollars a person and a 5 course minimum. Cocktails were 5 dollars for a 1oz taster.

My buddy isn't a big fan of the fava bean, and I thought we had enough courses already selected to not make a stink.

    Thanks!

I brought my Nikon D7000. I was switching back and forth between my 18-200 and my 50mm f1.8. On some shots, I also used my SB-700 flash.

i had a great time there tonight. i went with many of the same dishes as incite, did. i tried the trout and it was my favorite of the evening.
    Image
it had foie, foie butter, golden raisins, caper berries and cauliflower.
i loved the chocolate mousse dessert. i am not a big drinker but had a couple of the drinks, the humito and the one with the basil and balsamic. fantastic, and went down too easy. it hit me after we left. i hope they do another dinner, i really liked what they had to offer.
