Improper BBQ Technique Costs Spike O'Dell Big Time

This from today's Tribune story about radio personality Spike O'Dell's house fire (the house was a total loss, and his dog was killed).

Investigators believe the fire started because a friend watching the house for the vacationing O'Dells used charcoal in a gas grill when he ran out of propane. Some of the still-hot charcoal embers fell through slots in the bottom of the gas grill and onto mulch, which was very dry.

A timely reminder to be careful with your grills, smokers, and especially turkey fryers this holiday weekend!
