Anyone been to Decolores in Pilsen?

Couldn't find a thread or even a mention of it...if I missed something and you can refer me to the thread, that would great too!

Maybe that's because DeColores has only been open for a few months.

I assume you've seen the article in Metromix.

Why not try it and then let us know how you like it? That's what I try to do when there's a place that sounds like it might be good (like I recently did with Yolo).

I did but was hoping the forum might also provide some color commentary! And I think the photography on here is better

Given the name of the restaurant, I would think that any commentary is color commentary.

Too true! Actually, the inquiry was for a friend who is too lazy to figure out how to post on here I think she is going to go there tonite so I'll be sure to get a full report and post on her behalf!

This thread is old news, but I was just here the on Saturday night to use a Groupon. Overall it was a good experience. The food wasn't phenomenal in my opinion, but we had fantastic service and the prices are reasonable. BYOB is nice.

Chips & Salsa: A solid and unique salsa. Normal tortilla chips.

Queso Fundido: We had it with spinach and chorizo, a delicious and gut-busting shallow dish of melted cheese served with tortillas.

Chicken Mole Poblano: moist chicken, good mole, overall very good.

Tampiquena: perfect medium rare skirt steak, good flavor

Rice & Refried Beans: Ok sides, nothing special but decent for what they were. The gf though they were better than I did.

Included salad: decidedly mediocre at best

Tres Leches Cake: delicious and appropriately moist.

In a review I did for the Reader some time ago, my experience at DeColores was similarly meh.

Salad at a Mexican place mystifies me. I've never seen a salad in Mexico, and everyone in Mexico knows not to eat the shredded lettuce garni (due to intermittent water service in many parts of mexico, you never eat any veggie or fruit that can't be peeled, because you don't know what kind of water it's been washed in). Mrs Trpt, a native Mexican, says she never eats salad because it makes her feel as if she were a cow eating grass. It's just not done.

Salad renders the beautiful unattractive. How many times have I been having dinner with some gorgeous woman, only to see her otherwise comely features contorted grotesquely as her mouth gaps open like some starving weasel's to quickly cram in a misshapen four-to-five inch shred of cream-splattered leaf, followed by a complacent bovine glassiness of the eyes as she chomps fronds, mindlessly monstrously masticating. The effect, to say the least, is chilling. Maybe it's a good thing salad is served first; if it came after the meal, the recent memory of such a disturbing display would put the kybosh good and hard on any apres dinner amorousness. In ways such as these, salad could spell the end of the species.

This is a perhaps-intentional major overstatement. The raw tomatoes, chiles and other fruits and vegetables in pico de gallo are almost never peeled, and while shredded lettuce garnishes may be eaten only infrequently, the raw radish slices that garnish many dishes in Mexico are most definitely not for show.
