Sorry, but was wondering if anyone could be kind enough to point me out to any previous posts about 24 hour places in the city, I did a search but couldn't find anything. The only place I know of are maxwells/jim's by UIC, and white palace grill. I think Tempo and the orginal Billy Goat are open 24 hours? If you know of any places good or bad please respond. Thanks!

Hope this helps. You can also get a 24 guide to chicago restuarants at http://www.abstractpublishing.com/nitel ... 4food.html

In terms of what LTH said about them. You can search by the resturant. It may be more helpful that way. Since you'll be able to choose which resturants to search based on where they are located and the type of food you're looking for. 24 hour resturants in chicago are plentiful but if you're looking for something close to you it may be more helpful to know what resturants are by you and then see what has been said. Best of luck

FYI, snob, while we love our LTH, it's a common sentiment that the search function leaves a little to be desired. If you're having trouble finding something, try doing a Google search with the tag "site:lthforum.com" on the end (sans quotes). For example, the following search...

    "24 hour" site:lthforum.com

...should set you in the right direction.

    Hope that helps :-)

24 hours spots in Evanston are limited. Two I know of are the Burger King on Orrington and Clarke, and the IHOP on Howard and Ridge. Slim pickings. As long as you are at Howard, you might as well head south a bit and eat at GNR winner Hae Woon Dae at 6240 N. California.

El Famous is open 24 hrs on Fri and Sat night, ok tacos, not a destination but I love their smooth style red salsa

The Rogers Park one is dramatically better than their other locations imho.

    El Famous
Clark St. 1 block north of Lunt.

If you want 24 hours in Evanston, you can add Steak and Shake by Home Depot on Oakton, too. It is was it is. Sometimes it's the perfect thing for that part of the day. . . .

I could really use an updated list for when I work nights and don't want to cook when I get home. Any place that's open past midnight would be best. All over the city and suburbs (especially the north 'burbs). I'll start:

    Omega
    9100 Golf Rd., Niles

Sally's is open late, til midnight on the weekends at least
    5454 N. Harlem, Chicago

    Blue Angel
    5310 N. Milwaukee, Chicago

    Big Top
    6348 W. Higgins, Chicago

    White Palace Grill
    1159 S. Canal St., Chicago

Late Night Thai (open 9pm to 4am Sun, Tue-Thu, 5am Fri and Sat)
    1650 W. Belmont, Chicago

    George's Kabab Grill
    3216 W Lawrence Ave
    Chicago, IL‎ (773) 588-1800‎

Would have nominated it as GNR if I had thought hard enough.

I wanted to nominate it last cycle, but this crowd is way too picky, especially about Middle Easternistani food.

Luckily, George's Grill Kabab transcends merely temporal accolades. They are, in fact, a PNR. A permanent, neighborhood, restaurant.

How inclusive are you making it?
Just the city proper or suburbs too?
Only "proper" restaurants or are you interested in knowing that the IHOP on Noth Avenue in Oak Park is 24/7?

Maybe create a Google doc, with view permissions set to "all with link" whether they have Google logins or not (or view and edit permissions if you want to tempt fate?) You can then provide a link in a post, and maybe it'll get stickied. Since people can download in any format (including Word and .pdf), you won't have to worry about formatting or loading a discrete document somewhere. All you need is a gmail account to create one.

Add GNR Jimmy's Red Hots - best hot dog and fries I ever had there was at 1:55 AM last weekend, and I swear the enjoyment was a product of their condition and not mine.

The city and burbs. It's basically the name, address, and hours; if there are days that they close before 12am, those days are not included. All restaurants besides national fast food chains like McDonalds; there's so many you can find one in any city easily. In the case of an extensive list such as IHOP, I have listed it thusly:

IHOP, various locations; see also BURBS:
    4201 N. Cicero
    2818 W. Diversey
    3760 N. Halsted
    24 hours
Many others are open til midnight.

IHOP, various locations; see also CITY:
Addison, Arlington Heights, Bridgeview, Buffalo Grove, Crestwood, Evanston, Hoffman Estates, McHenry, Melrose Park, Orland Park, Rosemont, Saint Charles, Waukegan.
    24 hours.
Many others are open til midnight.

I'd update the list based on LTHer recommendations and places I find during my late-night munchie hunts.

Occasionally Mr. Pie and I will go out with our dude friends to Leona's. We'll sit forever and chat and then realize we should probably give them back their table. It's about then that I say, hey, let's go get some pie! But the only thing open near Devon & Sheridan is Baker's Square at Touhy and Western, and only until midnight. Are there any other good places for pie around there that are open late? For that matter, are there any dessert places open past 12?

About a 100 years ago (Ok really about 30) I would go to the IHOP at Howard and Asbury and get their apple pie a la mode. I see earlier in this thread it's still listed as being open 24 hours. I really have no idea if they even sell pie anymore, but it was pretty good for 3AM.

if you're still looking for 24 hour places...

    some of my faves are:

    Restaurant y Pozoleria San Juan
    1523 N. Pulaski Rd
    8 a.m.-1 a.m. Sunday-Thursday; 24 hours Friday-Saturday (opens 8 a.m. Friday, closes 1 a.m. Sunday)

    Two Way Grill
    4351 North Elston Avenue

    Suzie's Drive-In
    4126 W Montrose Ave

    Jeri's Grill
    4357 N Western Ave

also, the various Golden Nuggets around the city are 24hrs.

This might be slightly off topic since the places I'm bringing up are not 24 hr operations, at least they open late, and they are both in Chinatown:
MING HING, 2168 S Archer at the west end of Chinatown Square, the new dim sum 'king' of the city IMHO, otherwise only decent regular fare. BUT they are open till 2am everyday, plus it's the only place that offers dim sum from 9pm till midnight as far as I know.
Not surprisingly, also open late is their more hipster sibling CHI CAFE, just a few doors down at 2169 S Archer.
    Their hours are:
    Sunday to Thursday 8am - 2am
    Friday & Saturday 8am - 5am!! I guess the staff needs a bathroom break... :)
