I don't know if they are affiliated, but in case you didn't hear, GNR Kabul House is again open in Skokie. I just had lunch there today. It was great as always.

Just checking - did you know that they opened up 6 months ago in downtown Skokie? Perhaps you consider that "not easily accessible Skokie", but I thought I'd mention it in case you were under the impression they were still languishing out behind the airport.

I too would be excited by a Devon location.

By the way, Habibi, the Faik-al-Baik spot you're talking about, is that on Devon, or where?

Yes, I do recall that they reopened in Skokie, but we used to walk to the old location. The new one is a bit further out I think.

Twas indeed Devon, just west of Ghareeb Nawaz at 2032 W. Devon, Chicago, IL 60659. The place was formerly known as Taza BBQ.

from the Crain's article linked about 33 club, is a sidebar link about Gioco that includes this, "
The owners of South Loop restaurant Gioco say it will reopen for dinner service starting Wednesday after being shuttered for a month when its state taxes went unpaid.

The Italian restaurant at 1312 S. Wabash Ave. will add lunch service in two weeks and resume Sunday brunch in the fall, co-owners Jerry Kleiner and Howard Davis said in a news release.

Correction to my earlier post: Kabul House Express is not going in at Bell & Devon; that space is still occupied (profitably, it seems) by Hyderabad House's family dining offshoot. Kabul House is a bit further west...Oakley? Claremont? One of those Locations of the Damned, anyway.

New cupcake/candy shop in Little Italy. Serves about 10 varieties of cupcakes in both "skinny" and "piggy" portions with a wide selection of candies. I had a lemon drop cupcake; tasty, rich cream and moist cake. Doesn't look like a "destination" sweet shop, but I'll be back to check out some of the more interesting looking flavors.

Assuming this is the same Sam's on Granville, is he moving or opening a second location? Food was never outstanding but servicible, I lived around the corner in 1994 when he first opened and other than McDonalds it was the closest food right there.

This is more of a clopening:
From an email from Jury's at 4337 N. Lincoln:

Yes the rumors are true, Jury's will have new owners soon. In fact this is the final week for Pete and Dan.
We will both be gone on a golf trip to Michigan until Thursday evening. We will be back for the weekend, closed on Monday, Memorial Day and our last day will be Tuesday May 31st.

The new owners John and Mike will officially take over June 1st. You can stop by and meet them this week Monday through Thursday. They intend to keep Jury's going the same as it has been. All gift cards will be honored. The staff is staying. The Royalty Rewards program will continue. I'm sure they will be interested in what you have to say about what you liked or didn't like at Jury's.
Dan and I started the Jury Room on June 12, 1979 at 2432 N. Lincoln, closed it the end of 1994. We then opened Jury's on March 16, 1996. That's a pretty good run! It's time to take it easy and enjoy the rest of our lives.

We have enjoyed serving all our wonderful customers over the years, many of you have become good friends. How can we say thank you for the great support that you gave us? I don't think that's possible. So......we will just say it, Thanks!

We hope you will get a chance to stop by and see us before we go, although we will be around the neighborhood and hope to see some of you from time to time.

Finally, we want to thank our great staff. Many of them have been with us for years. They are the real reason Jury's has been successful. We hope that you will continue to support them and Jury's in the future.

All the very best to everyone!

    Peter and Dan
