I got a few bottles of the Epicurio and it is pretty good. Not by any strech an expert here, but I like what I like.
    Thanks for the tip

Dr. Jebediah Drinkwell Meritage at TJ's is a decent buy for $7. Definitely a step above 2 Buck Chuck. 89 points on TJ Wine . It is another blend, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot (whatever that is).

Trader Joe's Growers Reserve Chenin Blanc is a definite buy at $6. The Chariot Gypsy is featured in the TJ's Fearless Flyer this month.

Want a cheap cab to go with heavy red meat from the grill?

The 2007 Man Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon did well in a blind Cab tasting I attended some months ago, and the 2008 vintage is comparing favorably.

Lots of cassis, currant and blackberry, some spice, some vanilla. The best part? It's selling for about $8 at World Market.

As the bottle says, "Eat critters, drink Man."

Cross posting with "What are you drinking now..."

JT Cellars (by Starry Night) Lodi Syrah 2007 for $9.99/btl including shipping from WTSO.com

Sound structure of tannins, lengthy finish and lots of forward fruit (to my palate) make this a value winner.

2007 Bisceglia Terra di Vulcano Aglianico del Vulture from Basilicata. Inky, floral, violet nose, ripe raspberry, minerals, slate, leather, some tannins, no oak, some spice & dried herbs, and bright acidity. Semi-long finish. For $10.99 (granted 99 cents above the price specified in this thread), a good deal at Wine Discount. (90 points from Antonio Galloni from Wine Advocate, if you care about that.)

It isn't new or the best wine ever, but Big House Red is a completely drinkable wine at around $7 a bottle. Even better, it is now in a box for $17 -- which works out to $4.25 a bottle.

I waited to post until I could be sure that I'd cleaned out the entire supply of this wine: the 2007 Dry Riesling from Chateau Grand Traverse. I bought 15 bottles of this crisp, aromatic, minerally, food-friendly wine at the ridiculous price of $4.99 each. This is definitely the best Riesling I've ever had for under $5. Among the best under $15 Rieslings too.

I picked up a bottle of a 2010 "Don Cristobal 1492" Verdelho for $7.99 at Binny's the other night. Wine Advocate gave it 90 points, and I have to agree. It was a really, really good wine -- especially given the bargain basement price.

Squeaking in at just a penny under $10 (on WTSO.com) - we found the 2006 Larrikin Barossa Valley Shiraz packs a lot of punch for the price. This wine kept opening up for a full two hours after opening. Best value I've found in a full-bodied red ever - hands down.

    Couple of recent bottles:
The first is from Howard Silverman (Howard's Wine Cellar on Belmont):
At $9.99, "Little James' Basket Press" is a very food friendly Viognier/Sauvignon blend. I wouldn't say that it's more than the sum of its parts, but it is the sum of its parts, and they're nice parts. Surprisingly, for the name and label, it's a French Pays d'Oc ('09). I asked Howard for something to go with grilled veggies and it does the job very nicely. It's a bit floral, but nice acid and backbone from the Sauv., without being overly herbaceous as many are, to my taste.

Perfect for a hot summer day sipping is an '09 German Riesling from Loosen Bros. called "Dr. L." Paid either $10 or $11 for it. Can't recall where. Has that great tart green apple flavor and bright acidity of real Mosel, and some very refreshing sweetness. Not deep, complex, great German Riesling by any means, but good for the price.

A go-to Spanish red for me for easy, inexpensive drinking, has been Protocolo (there is also a white). Widely available for under $10, I drink it where I used to drink light young Chianti for $6, but now it's $12.
"Strange how potent cheap music is."

Just in time for Thanksgiving, a cheap, easy drinking red:

Proyecta Garnachas de Espana, 2009 La Garnacha Salvaje del Moncayo:

    Image

(The appellation, Ribera del Queiles, is a sub-app of Aragon.) Soft tannins, plum fruit, easy-drinking for garnacha, and best of all, it is nicely priced for $9.99 at Binny's. Good for pouring pre-dinner, and at 14% alcohol, guests will be nicely relaxed by the time they eat, and sure to compliment your food.

    Hi,

Beaujolais Village under $10 is much better suited to typical Thanksgiving fare. Binny's has Jadot and Duboeuf.

Trader Joe's 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape for a little bit over $10 was a treat after a couple of hours open.
Next bottle all just go right into the decanter an hour before dinner.

In Chicago, there are a lot of Italian and California wines. Been seeing a lot of Australian wines as of late.

A friend got me a bottle of wine (Howard Vinery Wines) from Australia's Barossa Valley.
