    All,

Just moved to the burbs, and boy do I miss the city already... trekking into the city just for Peoria Meat Market, Isaacson FIsh, and Dirks just is taking it's toll on my weekend time (and mileage on my car).

I'm looking to pick up a few quality items, for preferably reasonable prices close to the Woodridge/Naperville area... any suggestions on the following?

    1. 4-6 pounds of beef brisket, fat cap on (packer's cut).
    2. Sushi quality fish (preferably some great salmon)
    3. Mussels and dry packed scallops (for simple pasta meals)
    4. Soft shell crab

I'm still working on figuring out where I can my hands on stuff that reasonable quality and still affordable (meaning no Whole Foods unless I have no other options)...

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!!! :D

Since you put Woodridge first, I'm going to assume you figured people didn't know where Woodridge was, and added Naperville just "to be sure". Rest assured, the folks in DuPage County know where Woodridge is! (If you're indeed in Naperville, most of my suggestions may be a little too far for everyday shopping, but would still be good on a special trip.)

H-Mart is a great suggestion for your seafood needs, as is Supreme Lobster (which is closer to Woodridge than either the Caputo's in Naperville or the other place out in LaFox). For frozen seafood, check out the Westmont location of Westbrook Market (63rd and Cass)...it's also a great place for produce.

For meat, I'd suggest you take a look at Amici's in Downers Grove (63rd and Fairview), an Italian market with a GREAT butcher shop. Michael's in Downers Grove (75th and Lemont) has great produce, and their butcher shop can at times get what you want at GREAT prices. I'd go there first, and if they can't get what you want, then go to Amici.

For everything Eastern European, go to Brookhaven Marketplace in Darien (Cass and Plainfield). They carry a number of organic products as well.

There are a number of small Indian and Filipino markets in Woodridge and Downers Grove, and the Downers Grove location of Westbrook Market (63rd and Belmont) carries a large selection of Indian and Filipino products.

    Hope this helps!

Years ago City Meat Market was the go to place in Naperville, I understand they have reopened with new ownership.

I like Casey's at Gartner and Washington for meat. They are very helpful and can usually get most items with a little notice.

They are in the same shopping center as Trader Joes, Peterson's Wines and Succulent Seafood.

I focused on the Naperville part in my earlier post. For meat, many people visit Mike's in Villa Park although Casey's might be closer to you and they're the same people.
