Went to the F & F last Saturday night. Smells great as soon as you walk in from the Rotisserie oven.

Very tasty Duck dish. Pretty good Salmon. Nice looking place.

I hadn’t been when it was the Merlo off-shoot so I don’t know what the room looked like before.

I like these guys and wish them great success.

Eagle Bulgarian-American restaurant has opened in Des Plaines on Oakton, just west of Elmhurst Rd.

We had already eaten dinner, but stopped in last night to get a menu for future reference. My mother lives at the Asbury Court assisted living next door and we frequented Vago's when it was in this space until December.

Eagle's menu promises a meat-centric experience, with meatballs, sausages, kabobs or chops featured in most entrees. However, the owner took me through the menu and explained they have plenty of healthy options, including shopska salad, grilled tuna and tilapia. I personally am looking forward to trying the chushka biurek.

He also pointed out their website as it includes pix of all the entrees, and when I looked it up this morning, I noticed that curiously the pictures of the restaurant itself are not the same location. Perhaps they recently moved?

Anyway, I suspect we'll be trying this one out when I visit my mom next weekend.

Not sure where else to put this, but drove by this morning and noticed Louie's in Forest Park is open again after being closed for a couple months (feels like forever, though) to expand into the bar next door.

"Sacco Bruno" translates to "Brown Sack" in Italian. When I saw this new restaurant under construction at 2151 W. Armitage a few months back I naturally assumed that 1) This was a new take on Italian cuisine from the people who brought us "The Brown Sack"; and 2) Because of the connection to a GNR honoree there would be lots of details on the LTH boards.

I guess I was wrong on both counts -- couldn't find a single mention in this forum. And while I haven't really been in the neighborhood since it opened in mid-May (my friends who lived across the street moved recently), from what I could find online Sacco Bruno has no connection to The Brown Sack (aside from the name). Seems to be a hybrid deli/grocery/sandwich shop that's trying to do some authentic Italian things with local/organic ingredients.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but a new hotel, Public Chicago, is going to be opening in the Ambassador East space. What's interesting is the plans for The Pump Room:

Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, from the 2011 James Beard Best New Restaurant ABC Kitchen in New York, will head a new take on the property's original restaurant, The Pump Room, which hosted the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and Humphrey Bogart. In addition, the hotel's Library will feature communal work tables and computer stations in a coffee-bar setting by day, and a lounge and bar offering specialty cocktails and small plates from Jean-George by night; the adjacent candlelit Backroom will function as an entertainment lounge for private screenings, video installations and performances.

A couple of observations from my drive to work this morning...

I heard that the Dawali Mediterranean Kitchen location at 1626 N. Halsted had finally opened, so I took a short detour this morning and that appears to be correct. The paper is off the windows and the tables and chairs are in place. I'll confirm and hopefully try it out this afternoon, I've been waiting for this to open for a while!

I noticed on the way home yesterday that there's a Yemeni restaurant tucked away at 4750 N. Kenneth Ave. (southeast of the intersection of Lawrence & Elston). It's all papered over, but it looks like the kitchen is next door and it was fully open with a bunch of men inside. I couldn't tell if it was an opening or closing. There doesn't appear to be a website.

Those were not papered windows. They have those awful vertical white slat blinds, and from that angle it looked like paper. This place is open now, and I plan on making a date with Mr. Pie asap.

At 2858 W. Devon, there is a restaurant that used to be a vegetarian buffet and is now a different restaurant that serves meat. Helpful!

Since when did we have a WBEZ building at 2915 Devon? I never noticed that before.
