Wife wanted steak tacos for dinner, but we didn't have any skirt or flank so I used a ribeye. Rubbed down with a mix of ancho, guajillo, cayenne, black pepper, smoked paprika, cumin, mexican oregano, onion powder and garlic powder. Also grilled some corn that we picked up at the farmer's market this morning.

Was really delicious. The ribeye was super tender.

Lamb burgers on a toasted Bari Italian roll, with chevre, baby arugula, thinly sliced onion, and some homemade blackberry-honey mustard (well, I started with a commercial mustard). Worked out well for an improvisation based on what was on sale.

Last night: Ka Prao Nua, AKA basil beef, with home-grown green garlic & Thai basil. Tonight: Panang curry, with home-grown nothing, unfortunately. 8) Good eats regardless!

BALT with Meisfeld's Apple Bacon. Damn, that was a good sandwich. The avocado made it extra rich. The only thing that could have made it better was if it were August and the tomatoes were at their peak.

Yum to all the steaks and other good things pictured. I just finished my leftovers from a Naf Naf meal for lunch. I don't really know what I'll eat for dinner. Maybe take out.

Kids are out, and tonight we had a lovely summer dinner at home of grilled lamb burgers (mixed with feta and mint) with homemade bell pepper-apple relish, grilled corn on the cob (cooked in the husk, no soaking, as recommended by LAZ here), radish salad with a little sour cream dressing, and snap peas, quickly steamed and tossed with a few leftover roasted red peppers, olive oil, and a little garlic. Then we had a little coffee ice cream for dessert. Mmmm.

Today's menu: Grilled chicken, marinated in the purist version of Rick Bayless's habanero-carrot salsa, the one that accompanies the pibil torta at Xoco. By "purist" I mean that I didn't fiddle with the basic recipe at all today - I quite frequently substitute lime juice for the vinegar, and add cilantro, as well. It's a tasty variation, but the original is literally breathtaking. :)

To go with: frijoles borrachos, made with both black & pinto beans, & grill-roasted rajas - big knob onions, poblanos, & Anaheim chiles. Wish it was dinnertime!

It's retro night at the Z household. Who cares that it's the first day of summer and the temp was near 90, we had Swiss Steak W/Mashed potatoes and canned corn. I felt like I was at the Ohio House.

It's one of those nights - making sauteed chicken thighs with onions, garlic, tomatoes and peppers. Leftover white wine in the pan too.

"Fajitas," made with hanger steak rather than skirt, accompanied by Pico de Gallo, chopped grape tomatoes, knob onion/red Anaheim rajas, and frijoles borrachas (again, of both black & pinto beans mixed). I'm sold on hanger steak for this preparation now - much easier to control the level of doneness and to carve, plus no flare-ups on the grill at all. Really tasty dinner.

OJ and Milk to drink because if I have coffee after 3:00 I'll be up all night

First time really cooking since the excitement of the storm here last Tuesday. Found these wild Golf Shrimp & couldn't resist. Sautéed it up with a sauce my sister-in-law's mother got us from Japan & a little garlic, finished on the grill. Served it with broccoli & quinoa/whole grain rice blend.

I've got the ingredients to make too many good summer salads this week! Have to time it so that the produce doesn't go bad before I get to make them.

Tonight I am grilling chicken and making peach salsa to go along with it, and also serving caprese salad as an appetizer, with 3 colored tomatoes. I think we'll have sweet peas too.

I'm also planning to make watermelon/feta/mint salad and roasted beet/goat cheese salad and chopped kale/lemon/garlic salad. The leftover ends of tomatoes will get chopped up into a choban salata with green pepper, cucumber, parsley, onion and a pepper/tomato/corn/bean salad.

Same here. Grilled chicken with peach salsa made with the Georgia peaches I got from the itenerant peach truck and caprese salad made with some farmers market tomatoes I got at the Madison Farmers Market on Saturday. My tomatoes are only one color, but it's height of the season red, so I'm pretty excited about them.

Triple S Andouille brats, Bobek's Polish sausage, and Bobek's franks for the grill (along with some portabellos, red bells, and ears of corn), potato salad (the mayo kind with hb eggs, sweet relish, red onion, celery and a splash of cider vinegar), spicy fridge pickles, pico de gallo (tomatoes, Vidalia onion, jalapeños, cilantro, lime) and chips, washed down with mojitos and Chinotto and limeade. For dessert, peach cobbler (dough on the bottom this time) and whipped cream.

I have some fresh tarragon and might fix up a few chicken breasts for a cold chicken salad if I'm feeling industrious later this morning.

    Happy Fourth!

Tonight was another pretty easy night. Langoustine tails with Trader Joe's asparagus risotto & grilled asparagus. Coated the langoustine w/ a little flour & panko bread crumbs & pan fried them in sesame oil. Don't think I'd do that again. It was alright, but not fantastic.

It was the 3rd meal I made of the day, so I'm forgiving myself. Made tacos for the kids for lunch, grain fed beef w/ crushed tomatoes, packaged taco seasoning & crushed garlic also added roasted corn w/ cilantro. Then for dinner made homemade spaghetti sauce using organic canned tomatoes, garlic, basil & Italian seasoning. Threw in some pre-made meatballs (funnily enough from Trader Joe's, maybe it's a theme week).

Trader Joe's Hofbrau Brats, boiled in Sam Adams, crushed garlic cloves, onions & crushed red pepper before being grilled to perfection by my hubby (whom some of you may know as Seamus here). Served with pan roasted sunrise potatoes & grilled asparagus.

More of a mid-afternoon snack really... We couldn't wait to eat it!

Homemade burratta, still a little warm
Tomatoes & basil from the garden
Arbequina olive oil & 18 year balsamic vinegar from Old Town Oil
    Tellicherry peppercorn

That along with a decent Rioja makes for a lovely Sunday afternoon.
