Oh, as for the flavor, i had posted a bit about it on a charcoal thread here, thinking i mentioned it as on this thread as well. I used mesquite lump charcoal, and hickory chunks to smoke. I don't think the mesquite added much flavor to the smoke, and the hickory came off as pretty mild which is what i was hoping for. Overall it was a really enjoyable bird, very moist. I also made some awesome turkey and noodles the next day with some homemade dumpling noodles. The smoke flavor actually stood out in that much more, perhaps to it seeming unexpected.

This sounds right up my alley!

Is it still on for the 11th?

I have moved the BBQ to Sunday the 12th this week. The 11th just wasn't working out for anyone who has been regularly coming to these. Hope to see you there! Stay tuned for weather updates, the past two had to be moved to my house due to storms. I hope it stays on schedule at the harbor this time, and just a little rain won't scare me off, especially if it's in the upper 70's.

What are you planning on bringing? I'm still trying to decide what to smoke this week.

Since this is an event that happens on a scheduled basis, I think it would be a good idea to edit the title to update the date after each event to include the next date. Mods, does this sound like a good idea? Is there a way to unlock the editing settings to allow me to edit the original post/title?

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the 12th.

I have my 9 year old son in town for the weekend, but have to drive him back to his mother's that day (325 miles). So I'll look forward to the next one.

I am going to be in the area next Sunday with some friends and would love to stop by for some lunch.

Might there be a grill going? I would be more than willing to bring whatever we will eat plus something for the smoker.

I can see us breaking for an hour or an hour and a half but a longer break from our 'activities' might be pushing their patience. :)

Don't get me wrong as there is nothing I love more than to sit back, for hours, enjoying a few concealed adult beverages, surrounded by fragrant wood smoke but working 6 days a week leaves me not much free time. :(

I've been eyeing this thread for a while and it looks like we'll finally have some good weather and I'll be able to make this next one. I will be bringing some fish for smoking, probably whitefish or salmon, and maybe some sausages also. Pumped

I rode by early and the smoker smelled great. Had to get home after volleyball so I couldn't stop, but it looked like you had a nice turnout!

Even though my friends and I was only able to stop by to cook some sausages for lunch we had a great time!

    Thanks for setting this up.

Here are some pics from the last BBQ. It was a pretty great hit. As usual, when you're enjoying yourself it's hard to take pictures of everything usually the best parts get left off. One of which i forgot to take a pic of was the salmon that suiname smoked was really awesome! Thanks to everyone who came, it was a great turnout and look forward to one just as good this week!!

Not the most organized setup, but that's what we were going for! Random, and unexpected people were coming and going all day long, it was just as i imagined. :)

    Image

TheGuy brought a salad which was a hit. It came with a miso dressing which i didn't get a picture of. Also his juices he blended himself were very refreshing!

    My friend stefan's pulled pork.

    I brought rib tips.

My mom and dad surprised me this week

They even brought the family dog, Jet!

    Hi,

One of these days, I will make it. I am already expected at a luncheon on Saturday. Otherwise I'd come with the Moms.

I'm planning on bringing a turkey again this time. The first turkey i did was so delicious that i'll have to do another. This time I'll do it in the style my mother cooks it, a butterball with bacon strips on top to baste it. Anyone else coming? what do you plan to bring??? :)

They will be kicking me out of work at noon so it is looking good that My Bride and I will be making an appearance in the afternoon.

I was thinking about going in the tradition of Amana and bring along some pork chops to throw on the smoker. :)

    Weather is looking great!

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming east between 5 and 10 mph.

I'm bringing a duck to smoke. Besides eating it plain, I'll probably come up with a couple different recipes. I've never had a duck taco, but that sounds good. Hmm, any ideas?
