Was watching a cable access station last night, and saw some kind of food show featuring a large dopey bearded guy who seemed half in the bag.....pretty bad, but he was featuring a place called on the west side called Mart Anthony.....which looked pretty amazing, at least in terms of old school atmosphere....and the food did look pretty damn good in that Sabatino's type way.....anyone been?

Did a search here, and looks like it used to be on Randolph....

    This guy?

David Lissner is his name - and he definitely fits the "...a large dopey bearded guy who seemed half in the bag" profile. Long-time Chicago resto reviewer/shill.

Who wouldn't trust the recommendations of a show that's main advertiser is Chicago Fur Mart?

There's a great episode where he's at the Green Tie Ball where he's drunker than usual that is comedic gold.

"Back in the day" Mart Anthony was a frequent lunch haunt for my friends and me - very friendly owner/staff and pretty good food in a neat atmosphere. It was a great place to have a lingering lunch and then retire to the bar to continue conversation. We typically just ordered something one of the daily specials off the chalkboard.

I haven't been to their new location - until I saw this post I didn't even realize they'd reopened.
Objects in mirror appear to be losing.

I remember he was on NBC fired for doing an ad for a local restaurant while being an 'independent' reviewer of restaurants: http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-1483269.html

    That is the show.....

FYI.....this is some great channel! The half hour ad that followed for "The Clubhouse" might be the most hysterical thing I've seen on TV for years.....
